Caitlin
Gavin Named to womenslacrosse.com’s All-Rookie Team
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island freshman center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) was named
to the Div. III All-Rookie Team by www.womenslacrosse.com.
Gavin was a First Team All-Little East Conference selection and the
team MVP. She played 15 games, starting all
of them. She had 43 goals and 10 assists for 53 points. Gavin also
compiled a team-high 98 shots, 76 on goal, 82 ground balls and 74 draw
controls. Gavin was named the Little East Conference's Rookie of the
Week three times during the season. |

Gavin set new
RIC single-season records for shots (98), goals (43), points (53),
ground balls (82), draw controls (74) and caused turnovers (21). In
only one season of action, she is already tied for RIC’s all-time lead
in career goals and holds the all-time marks in draw controls and
caused turnovers. |

|
Head Coach
Ryan Angel’s team concluded the 2004 season with a 7-8 overall
record and was 0-6 in the Little East Conference. RIC’s seven wins
were one more than what the program had accumulated over its first
three seasons (six, 2001-2003). The program continued to improve as
the club broke 10 team records and tied another this spring. |

The Anchorwomen
established new single-season records for wins (seven), goals (147),
assists (42), points (189), ground balls (560), shots (375), draw
controls (176), caused turnovers (88), saves (146) and lowest
goals-against average (9.70). RIC’s 145 goals allowed tied the
previous low set in 2002. |
