Rhode Island College Announces
2003 Fall Sports MVPs
|
|
|
|
Providence, RI--The
Rhode Island College Department of Intercollegiate Athletics,
Intramurals and Recreation held its annual Fall Banquet at RIC’s
Donovan Dining Center on Monday, Dec. 1 to honor those
student-athletes who participate in varsity fall athletics. Each sport
gave out their Most Valuable Player Award. |

Women’s Tennis
|
|
Senior
Carminda Rocha (East Providence, RI) was named the women’s tennis
team’s MVP. She closed out her collegiate career as the Little East
Conference Champion at number two singles. Rocha won five LEC titles
during her illustrious career. She was the
LEC Champion at number four singles as a freshman and sophomore (1999
& 2000) and at number two singles as a junior (2001). Rocha also
shared the LEC Champion title at number two doubles as a sophomore
(2000). |

She owns a 54-10-1 (.838) career singles mark and a 45-16 (.738)
career doubles mark for 77.0 career points. Rocha is RIC’s all-time
leader in career singles wins and points. She is third in career
doubles victories and fifth in career singles winning percentage. She
is tied for eighth all-time in career doubles winning percentage. |

As a senior in 2003, Rocha
was the
Little East Conference Champion at number two singles. She
was 12-1 (.923) mark at number two singles and 9-3 (.750) at number
two doubles. Rocha was tied for the team lead in singles victories and
was third in both doubles wins and points. |

She is a music education major and a 1999 graduate of East Providence
High School. |
