ANCHORWOMEN DEFEAT OWLS, 68-65, IN WANING MOMENTS
|
|
Providence, RI—In a thriller at The Murray Center, the Rhode
Island College Anchorwomen got a basket from sophomore forward
Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY) with 16 seconds remaining and two
game-clinching free throws by senior guard Abby Ferri (Coventry,
RI) to defeat the Keene State College Owls, 68-65, in
women’s collegiate basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 17. |

In
a back and forth game, controlled mostly by the Owls, the Anchorwomen
used a 10-2 run in the final 2:29 to gain the victory. RIC was led by
freshman forward Kari Geisler (Derry, NH) who scored a
team-high 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Also with 13 rebounds, as
well as 14 points, was junior forward Heather Petttigrew (Cranston,
RI). Rounding out RIC’s double-figure scorers were Ferri and Nix
who each tallied 11 points. |

Leading the way for the Owls was sophomore guard Bekka Hopkins
(Oxford, MA) with a game-high 18 points and senior forward
Andrea Arsenault (Dover, NH) who added 11 points. |

With the victory, RIC improves to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in conference
action, while Keene State falls to 7-5 overall and 2-2 in conference
play. In upcoming action, RIC will play at UMass-Dartmouth on Tuesday,
Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. |
