SHIELDS NETS 1,000TH POINT IN
ANCHORWOMEN VICTORY

Providence, RI—Senior
forward Liz Shields (Warwick, RI) made history as she became
just the tenth player in Rhode Island College women’s basketball
history to score 1,000 career points. Shields finished the game with
ten points, giving her 1,004 points for her career as the Anchorwomen
defeated visiting Little East Conference foe UMass-Boston, 94-65, in
collegiate women’s basketball action. With the win, RIC improves to
13-8 overall and 5-5 in conference action, while the loss drops UMass-Boston
to 6-12 overall and 2-8 in LEC play. |

RIC dominated the Beacons in the
paint, outscoring UMB, 50-16. Twelve different Anchorwomen scored a
point led by freshman forward Brittany Rosen (Derry, NH) and
freshman guard Lisa Ranzoni (Lee, MA) who each tallied 13
points. There were four other Anchorwomen who scored in double
figures. Sophomore guard Kristy Nix (East Setauket, NY)
put in 12 points, freshman forward Caitlin Ryan (Chepachet, RI)
had 11 points, while Shields and freshman Kari Geisler (Derry, NH)
each had ten points. Along with her historic point total,
Shields had a well-rounded game as she scored in double figures,
grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists. |

UMB sophomore guard Elmina Darville
(Randolph, MA) had 17 points in a losing effort. |

In upcoming action, RIC will host
UMass-Dartmouth on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m. UMB will play at
Southern Maine on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. |
