Rhode Island College Men’s Indoor Track Update #7

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 7. RIC placed seventh (14 teams) with a team score of 30.0. Tufts University won the meet with a score of 155.0.

Sophomore Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.92 and was named the Little East Conference Rookie of the Week. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.99 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Karngar placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 23.31 and second in the 400 meters with a time of 50.37 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He broke two school-records by finishing first in the 200 meters with a time of 23.14 and first in the 500 meters with a time of 1:05.53 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17.

Senior Tim Rudd (Warwick, RI) finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.24. He placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.35 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Rudd placed third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:34.42 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:41.10 and second in the 500 meters with a time of 1:08.39 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.60 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished fifth in the mile with a time of 4:26.60 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed first in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:36.67 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6’01.25”. He placed second in the high jump with an effort of 6'02.00" at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Newman finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.83 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5’10.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished sixth in the high jump with a mark of 6’01.25” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed third in the high jump with mark of 6’02.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Junior Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) finished 28^th in the shot with a distance of 37’00.25” and sixth in the weight throw with a mark of 46’02.00”. He placed sixth in the shot and seventh in the weight throw with distances of 39'09.00" and 44'08.00", respectively at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Piette placed 15^th in the shot with a distance of 12.22 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fifth in shot with a distance of 37’03.75” and second in the weight throw with a distance of 45’10.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 41’06.50” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 13.40 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 46’00.50” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Sophomore Nick Palazzo (Providence, RI) finished 12^th in the weight throw with a distance of 42’09.50”. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 43'11.75" at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Palazzo finished 11^th in the weight throw with a distance of 13.28 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan, 24. He placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 44’11.50” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.15 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 43’07.75” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Sophomore Richard Palazzo (Providence, RI) placed 12th in the weight throw with a distance of 38'08.75" at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Palazzo placed 17^th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.97 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 41’01.00” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 14^th in the weight throw with a distance of 37’09.50” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 16^th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.63 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 34’05.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Junior Josh Precourt (Woonsocket, RI) finished 21^st in the 400 meters with a time of 54.71. He placed eighth in the 200 meters and fifth in the 400 meters with times of 25.11 and 54.20, respectively at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Precourt placed 16^th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.68 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 24.73 and ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 55:26 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 24^th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.77 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 19^th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.28 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.81 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman Jam Luong (Millbury, MA) finished tenth in the triple jump with a distance of 39’05.75”. He placed seventh in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump with leaps of 18'07.25" and 38'02.50", respectively at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Luong tied for 14^th place in the long jump with a distance of 5.29 meters and was sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 11.83 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished third in the long jump with a distance of 18’09.75” and third in the triple jump with a distance of 39’03.25” at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 15^th in the long jump with a distance of 17’10.75” at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished sixth in the long jump with a distance of 5.58 meters and 28^th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.13 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.14 and sixth in the long jump with a mark of 17’07.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman Andy Neil (Warwick, RI) finished 12^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.46. He placed sixth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:31.17 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Neil placed 22^nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.78 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished fourth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:12.17 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 25^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.79 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 14^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.79. Freshman Tim Goodwin (Warwick, RI) finished 16^th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.65. He placed third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:26.06 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Goodwin finished 32^nd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.51 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed sixth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.43 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 11^th in the mile with a time of 4:44.56 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:43.03 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Senior Mike Basilico (Johnston, RI) finished 14^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.43. He placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:52.38 at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Basilico placed 37^th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:32.94 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished eighth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:55.31 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 11^th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:58.46 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman Chris Matteson (Wood River Junction, RI) placed tenth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 at the Southern Maine Invitational. Matteson tied for 19^th in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He finished first in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.67 and tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.91 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 16^th in the preliminary round of the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.96 and 40^th in the 400 meters with a time of 58.44 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished eighth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 and 27^th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.06 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed eighth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.06 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman Matt Goroza (West Warwick, RI) finished 43^rd in the 200 meters with a time of 25.48. He placed ninth in the preliminary round of the 55 meters, 14th in the 200 meters and 13th in the 400 meters with times of 7.29, 26.00, and 57.66, respectively at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 31. Goroza finished 40^th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.77 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 15^th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.80 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 37^th in the prelims of the 55 meters with a time of 7.36 and 41^st in the 400 meters with a time of 59.29 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 32^nd in the 60 meters with a time of 7.64 and 29^th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.47 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.

Freshman Javon Partin (Providence, RI) finished 16^th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:29.51. He placed 17^th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:11.20 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan 24. He finished seventh in the 500 meters with a time of 1:14.71 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He placed 20^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.59 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished 11^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.46 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed third in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:47.46 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Freshman John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) placed 18^th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.32. He finished 21^st in the 400 meters with a time of 55.51 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 24. He placed 12^th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.28 and 12^th in the 400 meters with a time of 56.08 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 17. He finished 33^rd in the prelims of the 55 meters with a time of 7.17 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed 16^th in the 60 meters with a time of 7.60 and 16^th in the 400 meters with a time of 54.59 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13.

Freshman Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed 16^th in the mile with a time of 4:41.55 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He finished tenth in the mile with a time of 4:39.81 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 13. He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:36.62 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

Junior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) finished seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.27 at the Yale Classic on Jan. 10. He placed fourth in the mile with a time of 4:32.22 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 6.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Saturday, Feb. 14.
