2004 Little East Conference Regular Season Champions

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Craig Letourneau’s Anchorwomen finished the regular
season on the road with a, 3-2, come-from-behind victory over
Connecticut College in non-conference action Wednesday night. |
|
|
|
RIC captured the Little East Conference regular season title, the
first in the program’s history, by taking two matches at a Little East
Conference Round Robin on Saturday, Oct. 23. RIC defeated Plymouth
State and Southern Maine, both by a score of 3-0, to finish with a 5-2
mark in the LEC. |
|
|
|
There was a four-way tie for first, with Western Connecticut, Plymouth
State, Eastern Connecticut and RIC all posting equal marks in
conference play. RIC beat WCSU and PSU head-to-head and owned
tie-breakers over ECSU. |
|
|
|
The Anchorwomen will be the number one seed and host the 2004 Little
East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Friday and Saturday,
Nov. 5-6. RIC will play the winner of the fifth-seeded UMass-Dartmouth
vs. fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut match, which will be played on
Nov. 3, on Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Second-seeded Western Connecticut will
play the winner of the sixth-seeded Keene State vs. third-seeded
Plymouth State match, which is also played on Nov. 3, on Nov. 5 at
5:30. The tournament winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III
Tournament. The championship match will be played on Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. |

RIC completed the 2004 season with a 17-15 overall record, and has the
most wins for the program in a season since the 1991 squad went 16-14.
The Anchorwomen have posted a winning record only once in the last
seven years (13-11, 2000). |

Junior outside hitter Kristy Nix (East
Setauket, NY)
has played in 120 games in 32 matches. She has 341 kills (2.84/game),
a .253 hitting percentage, 36 service aces (0.30/game), ten assists
(0.08/game), 254 digs (2.12/game), and 45 blocks (0.38/game). Her
341 kills are a new RIC record for a single-season. |

Sophomore outside hitter Kari Geisler (Deerfield,
NH)
has played in 120 games in 32 matches. She has 334 kills (2.78/game),
a .210 hitting percentage, 12 assists (0.10/ game), 30 service aces
(0.25/game), 95 digs (0.79/game), and 38 blocks (0.32/game). She was
named to the Bridgewater State College Invitational All-Tournament
team on Sept. 25. |

Sophomore middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston,
RI)
has played in 121 games in 32 matches. She has 318 kills (2.63/game),
a .315 hitting percentage, and 159 blocks (1.31/game). Miga was been
named to both the Springfield and RIC Invitational’s All-Tournament
teams. Miga was named the Little East Conference’s Defensive Player of
the Week once this season. |

Junior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North
Kingstown, RI)
has played in 121 games in 32 matches. She has 32 kills (0.26/game), a
.038 hitting percentage, five assists (0.04/game), 43 service aces
(0.36/game) and a team-high 368 digs (3.04/game). Her 368 digs are
a new RIC record for a single season. Wojciechowski was named to
the RIC Invitational’s All-Tournament Team. |

Freshman middle hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry,
RI)
has played in 120 games in 32 matches. She has 220 kills (1.83/game),
a .220 hitting percentage, 51 service aces (0.43/game) six assists
(0.05/game) and 68 blocks (0.57/game). Heard had eight kills, six
blocks, two service aces and two digs in the win over Connecticut
College. For her efforts she was named the Little East Conference
Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. |

Freshman setter Amy Souza (Tiverton,
RI)
has played in 86 games in 29 matches. She has eight kills (0.09/game),
a team-high 584 assists (6.79/game), 20 service aces (0.23/game) and
77 digs (0.90/game). She has been named the Little East Conference’s
Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week once on the season. |

Junior right side hitter Sara Chamberland (Coventry,
RI)
has played in 105 games in 28 matches. She has 63 kills (0.60/game),
35 assists (0.33/game), 111 digs (1.06/game), 39 blocks (0.37/game)
and 15 service aces (0.14/game). |

NH)
has played in 107 games in 32 matches. She has 36 assists (0.34/game),
42 service aces (0.39/game) and 183 digs (1.71/game). |
