Rhode Island College Women’s Soccer Update #9
|
(10-9 Overall; 2-5 in the Little
East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Ryan Angel’s team finished the 2004 season with a
10-9 overall record and a 2-5 (seventh place) mark in the Little East
Conference. The team’s 10 victories were the most in the program’s
ten-year history. RIC also posted only its second winning season ever.
The 1999 club’s
9-9-1
effort was the only other time RIC women’s soccer finished the season
above .500. As a team, RIC set new program records for assists (28) in
a season and equaled the most shutouts (seven) in a season. |

RIC closed
out the season with a 1-1 week. The Anchorwomen lost, 3-1, to Amherst
on Oct. 26 and defeated LEC foe
Plymouth
State, 2-1, on Oct. 30. |

|
|
Freshman
forward Gina Calenda (Bristol, RI) played in 19 games, starting
ten of them. She had three assists, and led the team in goals with 11,
and points, with 25. Her 11 goals and 25 points are new program
records for a freshman, surpassing Alexis Bouchard’s 2001
rookie campaign of ten goals and 23 points. Calenda was named the
Little East Conference Rookie of the Week once this season. |

Freshman
midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter, RI) played in 19 games,
starting 14 of them. She had two goals and seven assists for 11
points. She had an assist in the Anchorwomen’s, 2-1, victory over
Plymouth State. |

|
|
Senior
forward Elena Sanborn (North Scituate, RI) played in 15 games,
starting 12 of them. She had two goals and six assists for ten points.
She had the only goal in RIC’s, 3-1, loss to Amherst. Sanborn also
notched a goal in the Anchorwomen’s, 2-1, win over Plymouth State. |

Freshman
midfielder Jessica Cardinal (Harrisville, RI) played in 14
games, starting three of them. She had four goals and one assist for
nine points. Cardinal was named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of
the Week once this season. |

Freshman
midfielder Leah Hayes (Coventry, RI) played in 17 games,
starting 14 of them. She had two goals and four assists for eight
points. She had an assist in the Anchorwomen’s, 2-1, victory over
Plymouth State. |

|
|
Senior
goalkeeper Melissa Carpentier (Woonsocket, RI) played in 15
games, starting 13 of them. She had an 8-7 record and 42 saves with a
.689 save percentage, a 1.43 goals against average and three shutouts. |
|
|
|
Sophomore
midfielder Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) played in 18 games,
starting 15 of them. She had five goals and one assist for 11 points. |
|
|
|
Junior
goalkeeper Alex Rothemich (Scituate, RI) played in seven games,
starting four of them. She had a 2-2 record, 17 saves and two shutouts
with a .586 save percentage and a 2.01 goals against average.

Sophomore
forward Erika Haaland (North Dartmouth, MA) played in 17 games,
starting ten of them. She had four goals and one assist for nine
points. |

|
|
Freshman
midfielder Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) played in 19 games,
starting 12 of them. She had four goals and two assists for ten
points. She had the game-winning goal in the Anchorwomen’s, 2-1, win
over Plymouth State. |

Senior
forward Lauren Tomasso (Cranston, RI) played in 17 games,
starting 14 of them. She had one assist for one point. |
|
|
|
Freshman
defender Emily Moore (Coventry, RI) played in 16 games,
starting six of them. |

defender Katie Benevides (North Dighton, MA) played in 19
games, starting 16 of them. |

defender Mallary Bileau (Woonsocket, RI) played in 18 games,
starting 17 of them. |
