KYLE TEIXEIRA BREAKS RIC GOAL SCORING
RECORD IN RIC’S FIRST-EVER
LEC TOURNAMENT WIN

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren,
RI)
scored on a free kick in the 82nd minute to break the
Anchormen’s career goal scoring mark. Teixeira notched his 21st
goal of the season, and the 63rd of his career, in RIC’s,
3-1, win over Plymouth State in a semi-final game of the 2004 Little
East Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament. |

Teixeira broke
Domenico Petrarca’s 27 year-old record and now has 141 career
points in two-plus seasons as an Anchorman. He trails Petrarca’s
all-time point record of 147 by six points. |

|
|
The win was the
program’s first-ever Little East Conference Tournament victory. RIC
advances to the Championship Game and
will play at top-seeded
Keene State on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Owls defeated Eastern
Connecticut, 2-0, in the other semi-final game. |

|
RIC freshman
James Nigrelli (Ashaway,
RI) gave
the Anchormen a, 1-0, lead in the 13th minute, heading in a
corner kick from sophomore Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket,
RI).
Sophomore Chris Childs (Cranston,
RI)
scored what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal, giving the
Anchormen a, 2-0, lead, in the 71st minute. |

Plymouth State cut
the lead to one when sophomore Felix Rosen (Stockholm,
Sweden)
converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Teixeira was
taken down by PSU senior goalkeeper Dan Custance (Holderness, NH)
in the 82nd minute and scored shortly thereafter. Custance
was issued a red card on the play and was replaced by senior Jayson
Smith (Northwood,
NH),
while the Panthers played out the final eight minutes one man down. |

RIC freshman
goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren,
RI) won
his third straight game, making five saves in the victory. Custance
made four stops in a losing effort. |
