KYLE TEIXEIRA BREAKS RIC GOAL SCORING RECORD IN RIC’S FIRST-EVER
LEC TOURNAMENT WIN

Providence, RI—Rhode Island College junior Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI) scored on a free kick in the 82nd minute to break the Anchormen’s career goal scoring mark. Teixeira notched his 21st goal of the season, and the 63rd of his career, in RIC’s, 3-1, win over Plymouth State in a semi-final game of the 2004 Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament.

Teixeira broke Domenico Petrarca’s 27 year-old record and now has 141 career points in two-plus seasons as an Anchorman. He trails Petrarca’s all-time point record of 147 by six points.

The win was the program’s first-ever Little East Conference Tournament victory. RIC advances to the Championship Game and will play at top-seeded Keene State on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Owls defeated Eastern Connecticut, 2-0, in the other semi-final game.

RIC freshman James Nigrelli (Ashaway, RI) gave the Anchormen a, 1-0, lead in the 13th minute, heading in a corner kick from sophomore Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket, RI). Sophomore Chris Childs (Cranston, RI) scored what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal, giving the Anchormen a, 2-0, lead, in the 71st minute.

Plymouth State cut the lead to one when sophomore Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Teixeira was taken down by PSU senior goalkeeper Dan Custance (Holderness, NH) in the 82nd minute and scored shortly thereafter. Custance was issued a red card on the play and was replaced by senior Jayson Smith (Northwood, NH), while the Panthers played out the final eight minutes one man down.

RIC freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren, RI) won his third straight game, making five saves in the victory. Custance made four stops in a losing effort.
