Men’s Soccer To Face Wildcats in
ECAC Tournament First Round
|

|
Providence, RI--Head
Coach John Mello’s third-seeded Anchormen will host
sixth-seeded Johnson and Wales University in the first round of the
ECAC Div. III Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
|
|
|
|
This is the
second consecutive season the Anchormen have been selected to
participate in the ECAC Tournament. |
|
|
|
The rest of
the field includes top-seeded M.I.T., second-seeded Salve Regina,
fourth-seeded Coast Guard, fifth-seeded Southern Maine, seventh-seeded
UMass-Dartmouth and eighth-seeded Plymouth State. |
|
|
|
The
Anchormen have already faced Johnson & Wales this fall, having
defeated the Wildcats, 3-2, at home on Sept. 14. RIC is 11-8-2 overall
and were 4-2-1 (second place) in the Little East Conference during the
regular season. The Anchormen were eliminated from the 2004 Little
East Conference Tournament with a, 3-1, loss at Keene State on Nov. 6
in the Championships Game. |

Junior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren,
RI)
was named the Little East
Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year and also earned
First Team All-LEC honors. He
has played in 20 games, starting all of them. He has 21 goals and five
assists for 47 points on the season. Teixeira’s 21 goals and five
assists give him 63 goals and 142 points for his career. Teixeira’s 63
goals is a new RIC all-time record, passing former RIC all-time men’s
soccer goals leader Domenico Petrarca (’77). Teixeira scored
the record-setting goal in the 82nd minute of RIC’s, 3-1,
LEC semi-final victory over Plymouth State. He also had helpers in
each of the Anchormen’s two games this week. Teixeira is only five
points shy of Petrarca’s all-time RIC’s career points record. |

Freshman midfielder Jeff Melo (North
Providence,
RI)
has played in 17 games, starting six of them. He has three goals and
one assist for seven points. Melo injured his knee against
Keene
State on Oct. 23 and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. |

Sophomore forward Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket,
RI)
has played in 18 games, starting 16 of them. He has three goals and
four assists for a total of ten points. He had a helper in RIC’s, 3-1,
victory over
Plymouth State in the semi-final game of the Little East Conference
Men’s Soccer Tournament. |

Freshman goalkeeper Jadon Neves (Warren,
RI)
has played in 16 games, starting 13 of them. He has a record of
9-6-1 with 77 saves and has logged a .786 save percentage and a 1.35
goals against average. Neves has five shutouts on the season. He has
been named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week
once this season. |

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset,
MA)
has played in six games, starting all of them. He has a record of
2-2-1 with 23 saves and has logged a .719 save percentage and a 1.58
goals against average. |
|
|
|
Freshman midfielder Steve Alves (Seekonk,
MA)
has played in 19 games, starting 11 of them. He has three goals and
two assists for eight points. |
|
|
|
Junior defenseman Matt Borges (New
Bedford,
MA)
has played in 21 games, starting 20 of them. He has two goals and one
assist for five points. He had the only RIC goal in the Anchormen’s,
3-1, loss to
Keene State in the Championship Game of the Little East Conference
Men’s Soccer Tournament. |

has played in 17 games, starting 15 of them. He has one assist for one
point. |

Junior midfielder Chris Cunha (East

has played in 17 games, starting one of them. He has two goals and one
assist for five points. |

Freshman defenseman James Nigrelli (Ashaway,
RI)
has played in 20 games, starting eight of them. He has three goals and
two assists for eight points. He headed in the first goal of the game
in RIC’s, 3-1, victory over
Plymouth State in the semi-final game of the Little East Conference
Men’s Soccer Tournament. |

has played in 20 games, starting three of them. He has three goals and
four assists for ten points. He netted the game-winning goal in RIC’s,
3-1, victory over
Plymouth State in the semi-final game of the Little East Conference
Men’s Soccer Tournament. |

has played in 18 games, starting 15 of them. He has one goal and two
assists for four points. |

Junior midfielder Joe Mackinnon (Exeter,

has played in 13 games, starting seven of them. He has two goals and
one assist for five points. |

Freshman defenseman Matthew Souto (East

has played in 20 games, starting 18 of them. He has two goals for four

was named Second Team All-Little East Conference. He has played in 20
games, starting 19 of them. |

Sophomore defenseman and captain Scott Westcott (Scituate,

has played in 16 games, starting five of them. |
