2004 Rhode Island College Men’s Cross Country
|
Season Summary
|
|
Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2004 season at
the NCAA New England Regional Div. III Championships, hosted by
Southern Maine, on Saturday, Nov 13, and placed 26th (39
teams) with a team score of 833. |
|
|
|
The
Anchormen competed at the ECAC Div. III Championships, hosted by Tufts
University on Nov. 6 and placed 25th overall (34 teams)
with a score of 684. |
|
|
|
RIC placed fourth overall (12 teams) with a team score of 129 at the
Little East/MASCAC Alliance Championships, hosted by UMass-Dartmouth
on Saturday, Oct. 30. The Anchormen placed third (five teams) among
Little East institutions with a team score of 76. |
|
|
|
Senior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield,
RI)
closed out his career as an Anchorman this fall. Parenteau’s fastest
time at RIC was 26:22 set during his sophomore season in 2002. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2004, he
placed 127th
with a time of 24:27 at the Plansky Invitational on Oct. 23. He placed
20th at the RWU Invitational with a time of 31:25 on Oct.
9. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2003, he
was the
Anchormen’s top runner at the New England Division III Championships,
placing 56th with a time of 27:39. He finished 27th
with a time of
20:31
at the Plansky Invitational (shortened course). He placed 187th
with a season-best time of 27:10 at the New England Open
Championships. He placed sixth at the Tri-State Championships with a
time of 28:11. He was the Anchormen’s top runner, placing fifth with a
time of 28:22 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational. Parenteau finished sixth
with a time of 28:55 at the Ocean State Invitational. He was the
Anchormen’s top runner at the Hayseed Classic, placing 26th
overall with a time of 28:39. |

As a sophomore in 2002, Parenteau
finished 60th
with a career-best time of 26:22 at the New England Div. III
Championships. Parenteau placed 25th at the ECAC
championships with a time of 28:02. He placed 24th at the
Alliance Championships with a time of 27:47. Parenteau placed 50th
at the James Early Invitational with a time of 27:18. He placed fifth
at the Roger Williams Invitational with a time of 28:41. Parenteau
placed fifth at the Tri-State Invitational with a time of 29:03. He
placed 96th with a time of 28:22 at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational. Parenteau owns five of the top 50 times in RIC history. |

As a freshman in 2001, he
placed 107th
with a time of 27:37 at the New England Div. III Championships.
Parenteau placed 49th with a time of 28:22 at the ECAC Div.
III Championships. He placed 27th with a season-best time
of 27:15 at the Alliance Championships. He placed 23rd with
a time of 28:10 at the James Early Invitational. He placed 21st
with a time of 30:24 at the Bryant Invitational. Parenteau placed 14th
with a time of 28:31 at the Tri-State Championships. He placed
16th with a time of 29:06 at the Ray Dwyer Invitational.
Parenteau placed 11th with a time of 29:45 at the CCRI
Invitational. |

He is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Smithfield
High School. |

Junior
Tim Goodwin (Warwick,
RI)
placed 35th with a season-best time of 28:01 at the
Alliance Championships on Oct. 30. Goodwin placed 61st with
a time of 21:52 at the Plansky Invitational on Oct. 23. He placed
sixth at the RWU Invitational with a time of 29:58 on Oct. 9. He
finished fourth at the Ray Dwyer Invitational with a time of 30:06 on
Sept. 25. He finished 133rd at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational with a time of 28:47 on Sept. 18. He was the Anchormen’s
top runner placing fourth with a time of 30:07 at the Rhode Island
Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 9. |

Junior
Manny Karngar (Providence,
RI)
placed 166th with a time of 29:57 at the New England
Championships on Nov. 13. He was RIC’s top runner at the ECAC
Championships, placing 77th with a time of 29:16 on Nov. 6.
He earned All-Alliance/Little East honors, placing 18th
with a season-best time of 27:01 at the Alliance Championships on Oct.
30. It was the 20th fastest time in RIC history. Karngar
placed 102nd with a time of 23:02 at the Plansky
Invitational on Oct. 23. He finished fourth at the Ray Dwyer
Invitational with a time of 29:51 on Sept. 25. He finished 180th
at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 30:02 on Sept. 18. |

Sophomore
Eric Lonergan (North
Kingstown,
RI)
was RIC’s top runner at the New England Championships on Nov. 13,
placing 125th with a time of 28:49. He earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors, placing 15th with a
season-best time of 26:49 at the Alliance Championships on Oct. 30. It
was the 16th fastest time in RIC history. Lonergan was
RIC’s top runner at the Plansky Invitational, (shortened course)
placing tied for 28th with a time of 21:01 on Oct. 23. He
was RIC’s top runner at the RWU Invitational, placing first overall
with a time of 28:39, on Oct. 9. For his efforts, he was named the
Little East Conference’s Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week. He
was the Anchormen’s top runner at the Ray Dwyer Invitational,
placing first with a time of 29:10, on Sept. 25. He was the
Anchormen’s top runner, placing 85th overall with a time of
27:35, at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, on Sept. 18. |

Sophomore
Andy Neil (Warwick,
RI)
placed 227th with a time of 32:20 at the New England
Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 180th with a time of
32:04 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 58th
with a season-best time of 29:35 at the Alliance Championships on
Oct. 30. Neil finished 11th at the Ray Dwyer Invitational
with a time of 31:43 on Sept. 25. He finished 173rd at the
UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 29:52 on Sept. 18. He
placed 16th at the Rhode Island Collegiate Invitational
on Sept. 9 with a time of 33:24. |

Freshman
Greg Clark (Pawtucket, RI) placed 151st with a time of
29:39 at the New England Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 139th
with a time of 30:31 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 34th
with a season-best time of 27:59 at the Alliance Championships on Oct.
30. Clark placed 71st with a time of 22:05 at the Plansky
Invitational (shortened course) on Oct. 23. He placed 17th
at the RWU Invitational with a time of 31:00 on Oct. 9. He finished 14th
at the Ray Dwyer Invitational with a time of 31:50 on Sept. 25. He
finished 172nd at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational with a
time of 29:48 on Sept. 18. He placed 11th with a time of
32:18 at the Rhode Island Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 9. |

Sam Gaye (Providence, RI) placed 232nd with a time of
32:31 at the New England Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 192nd
with a time of 32:26 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 67th
with a season-best time of 30:42 at the Alliance Championships on Oct.
30. Gaye placed 12th at the Ray Dwyer Invitational with a
time of 31:48 on Sept. 25. He finished 208th at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational with a time of 32:00 on Sept. 18. |

Mike Sarazin (Pawtucket, RI) placed 221st with a time
of 32:00 at the New England Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 172nd
with a time of 31:46 at the ECAC Championships. He placed 66th
with a season-best time of 30:33 at the Alliance Championships on Oct.
30. Sarazin placed 51st at the RWU Invitational with a time
of 33:56 on Oct. 9. He placed 23rd at the Rhode Island
Collegiate Invitational on Sept. 9 with a time of 35:21. |

Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed 179th with a time
of 30:22 at the New England Championships on Nov. 13. He placed 155th
with a time of 31:03 at the ECAC Championships on Nov. 6. He placed 46th
with a season-best time of 28:46 at the Alliance Championships on Oct.
30. Van Gieson placed 93rd with a time of 22:44 at the
Plansky Invitational (shortened course) on Oct. 23. He finished
10th at the Ray Dwyer Invitational with a time of 31:29 on
Sept. 25. He finished 184th at the UMass-Dartmouth
Invitational with a time of 30:08 on Sept. 18. He finished 12th
at the Rhode Island Collegiate Invitational with a time of 32:37 on
Sept. 9. |
