Rhode Island College Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Update #3

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the Albany Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 16. RIC placed fifth (ten teams) with 54 points. Albany won the meet with 199.50 points.

Junior Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.62. He placed third in the 400 meters and 11^th in the 1,500 meters with times of 50.21 and 4:19.44, respectively, at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Junior Nick Palazzo (Johnston, RI) placed first in the hammer with a distance of 51.42 meters. Palazzo placed third in the hammer with a distance of 154’03.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

Senior Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed second in the hammer with a distance of 48.40 meters. Piette placed first in the hammer with a distance of 162’08.00” and 19^th in the shot with a distance of 36’00.75” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

Junior Rich Palazzo (Johnston, RI) placed third in the hammer with a distance of 47.81 meters. He placed fourth in the hammer throw with a distance of 154’00.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

Sophomore Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.89 meters and placed tenth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.06. He placed second in the high jump with a leap of 6’02.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 6’00.00” at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Freshman Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed tenth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.07. Van Gieson placed 14^th in the 400 meters with a time of 53.47 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed 18^th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.22 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Sophomore Matt Goroza (West Warwick, RI) placed 17^th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.69. Goroza placed 28^th in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 24.72 and 56.62, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. Goroza placed 19^th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.38 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Junior Tim Goodwin (Warwick, RI) placed ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:51.11. He placed 11^th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:45.02 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed 19^th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:27.46 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Sophomore Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed 12^th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:38.15. Lonergan placed ninth in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.68 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time 16:08.31 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Sophomore Bo Luong (Millbury, MA) placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.88 meters. He placed tenth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump with leaps of 18’10.00” and 38’10.00”, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

Freshman James Polak (Smithfield, RI) placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 28.43 meters. He placed 24^th in the discus with a distance of 90’09.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

Freshman Sam Gaye (Providence, RI) placed 14^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.11.

Senior Joe Parenteau (Smithfield, RI) placed 13^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.11. Parenteau placed 23^rd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.26 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Freshman Jordan Wright (Brookline, MA) placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 41’07.75”, as well as 15^th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.01, at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26.

Freshman James Isherwood (Smithfield, RI) placed 17^th in the 200 meters and 13^th in the 100 meter hurdles with time of 23.97 and 21.07, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Northeastern Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 23.
