Four
Anchormen Earn Baseball
All-Conference Honors
|

|
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea, MA)
and senior first baseman Matt Brannon (Cranston, RI) earned
First Team All-Little East Conference honors, while freshman
designated hitter Jim Connell (Smithfield, RI) and sophomore
catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) earned Second Team
All-Little East Conference honors for their efforts this season. |

Higgins, who was
also named the team’s MVP, has played in 38 games, starting 34 of
them. He is batting a team-high .404 with a team-high 61 hits along
with two home runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 28 RBI, 26 runs scored,
ten walks and three stolen bases. Higgins owns team-highs with a .449
on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage. He also has a .956
fielding percentage. He was named the Little East Conference Baseball
Player of the Week once this season. |

|
Brannon
has played in 38 games, starting all of
them. He is batting .365 with 50 hits, seven doubles, two triples, one
home run, 26 runs scored, 14 walks and a team-high 30 RBI. Brannon
owns a .467 slugging percentage, a .444 on-base percentage and a .984
fielding percentage. Brannon also is a pitcher. On the mound, Brannon
has appeared in eight games, starting five of them. He owns a 2-2
record with a 2.92 ERA. In 37.0 innings pitched, he has struck out 38
batters. |

Connell, who was named the LEC
Baseball Rookie of the Week once this season,
has played in 35 games, starting 33 of
them. He is batting .272 with 34 hits, eight doubles, two home runs,
11 walks, 17 runs scored and 28 RBI. Connell owns a slugging
percentage of .384, an on base percentage of .343 and a .990 fielding
percentage. |

|
Henault
has played in 35 games, starting 33 of
them. He is batting .302 with 42 hits, eight doubles, two triples, two
home runs, 18 walks, 32 runs scored and 23 RBI. Henault owns a .432
slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage along with a .995
fielding percentage. |

|
The Anchormen are 19-19
overall and were the 2005 Little East Conference Baseball Tournament
Champions. The Anchormen were a perfect 4-0 at the tourney from May
11-14. RIC opened with a 8-3 win over second-seeded
Keene
State on Wednesday, May 11, then defeated third-seeded Southern Maine,
7-4, on Thursday, May 12 and knocked off top-seed and tournament host
Eastern Connecticut, 6-3, on Friday, May 13. RIC defeated
fourth-seeded Western Connecticut, 6-3, in the Championship Game on
Saturday, May 14. It is the first-ever Little East Conference title
for the Anchormen. |

In upcoming action, the
Anchormen will travel to Ithaca to take part in the NCAA Div. III
Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 19. It is the program’s first
trip to the NCAA Tournament in 25 years (1980). |
