Chris
Higgins Named
Second Team All-New England

Providence, RI—The
New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) named Rhode
Island College senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea,
MA) Second Team
All-New England. |
|
|
|
Higgins, who was
also named First Team All-Little East Conference and the team’s MVP,
has played in 38 games, starting 34 of them. He is batting a team-high
.404 with a team-high 61 hits along with two home runs, 13 doubles,
two triples, 28 RBI, 26 runs scored, ten walks and three stolen bases.
Higgins owns team-highs with a .449 on-base percentage and a .556
slugging percentage. He also has a .956 fielding percentage. He was
named the Little East Conference Baseball Player of the Week once this
season. |

The Anchormen are 19-19
overall and were the 2005 Little East Conference Baseball Tournament
Champions. The Anchormen were a perfect 4-0 at the tourney from May
11-14. RIC opened with an 8-3 win over second-seeded
Keene
State on Wednesday, May 11, then defeated third-seeded Southern Maine,
7-4, on Thursday, May 12 and knocked off top-seed and tournament host
Eastern Connecticut, 6-3, on Friday, May 13. RIC defeated
fourth-seeded Western Connecticut, 6-3, in the Championship Game on
Saturday, May 14. It is the first-ever Little East Conference title
for the Anchormen. |

In upcoming action, the
Anchormen will travel to Ithaca to take part in the NCAA Div. III
Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 19. It is the program’s first
trip to the NCAA Tournament in 25 years (1980). |
