Chris
Higgins Selected to NEIBA All-Star Game at Fenway Park
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior outfielder Chris Higgins (Swansea,
MA)
has been
selected by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA)
to the New England Div. III All-Star Team and will play in the 30th
Annual College Baseball All-Star Game at Fenway Park on Sunday, June
5. |

The Div.
III team will join a team of Div. II All-Stars to face a squad filled
with Division I All-Stars. The game will be played after the Red Sox
host the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway. The approximate starting time
is 6:30 p.m. |

|
|
Higgins, who was Second Team All-New England, First Team All-Little
East Conference and the team’s MVP, has played in 38 games, starting
34 of them. He is batting a team-high .404 with a team-high 61 hits
along with two home runs, 13 doubles, two triples, 28 RBI, 26 runs
scored, ten walks and three stolen bases. Higgins owns team-highs with
a .449 on-base percentage and a .556 slugging percentage. He also has
a .956 fielding percentage. He was named the Little East Conference
Baseball Player of the Week once this season. |

The
Anchormen are 19-19 overall and were the 2005 Little East Conference
Baseball Tournament Champions. The Anchormen were a perfect 4-0 at the
tourney from May 11-14. RIC opened with an 8-3 win over second-seeded
Keene State on Wednesday, May 11, then defeated third-seeded Southern
Maine, 7-4, on Thursday, May 12 and knocked off top-seed and
tournament host Eastern Connecticut, 6-3, on Friday, May 13. RIC
defeated fourth-seeded Western Connecticut, 6-3, in the Championship
Game on Saturday, May 14. It is the first-ever Little East Conference
title for the Anchormen. |

In upcoming
action, the Anchormen will travel to Ithaca to take part in the NCAA
Div. III Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 19. It is the program’s
first trip to the NCAA Tournament in 25 years (1980). |
