ANCHORMEN SHUT OUT AND ELIMINATED FROM
NCAA TOURNAMENT
PANTHERS GET A COMPLETE GAME VICTORY FROM BEN MILLER
|
|
Auburn, NY—Sixth-seeded
Rhode Island College fell to fifth-seeded Pittsburgh-Bradford, 2-0, in
the second day of the NCAA Division III Baseball Regional Tournament
at Falcon Park. The Anchormen are now eliminated from the tournament
and finish the season with a 19-21 overall record. Pitt.-Bradford will
go on to play tomorrow and improve its record to 26-15. |

The Rhode
Island College offense was no match for Pitt.-Bradford junior starting
pitcher Ben Miller (Evans
City, PA)
as he went the distance, throwing a complete game shutout to pick up
his fifth win (5-4) of the season. The only runs Miller needed came in
the bottom of the third inning when the Panthers struck for two. |
|
|
|
With one out,
Pitt.-Bradford sophomore center fielder
Corey Smock (Guys Mills, PA),
who went 3-for-3 on the day, singled, which was followed by a double
from sophomore catcher Dom
Morelli (DuBois, PA)
that advanced Smock to third. Panther junior designated hitter
Ryan Snyder (Aliquippa, PA)
hit an infield single to score Smock and send Morelli to third.
Morelli would then score on a fielder’s choice to make the score 2-0.
The Anchormen threatened twice, but were unable to break through for
any runs. |

|
|
The hard luck
loser on the mound for the Anchormen was freshman starter
Eric Thibault (Somerset, MA)
who
pitched seven innings, giving up two runs, three walks with seven
strikeouts. The loss completes his season with a 4-3 record.
