2005 Rhode Island College
Mens Outdoor Track & Field Season Summary
|
|
Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jacksons team closed out the 2005 mens outdoor
track and field season at the ECAC Div. III Championships, hosted by
Springfield College on Thursday and Friday, May 19-20. RIC did not
score as a team. New Jersey City University won the meet with a team
score of 106. |
|
|
|
The
Anchormen competed at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted
by Springfield College on Friday and Saturday, May 6-7. RIC did not
score as a team. Williams won the meet with a team score of 168. |
|
|
|
RIC
competed at 2005 Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships,
hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Sunday, May 1. The Anchormen finished
fifth overall (ten teams) and fourth (five teams) in the Little East
with team scores of 62.5 and 88.0, respectively. Westfield State won
the Alliance Championship with a team score of 157.50, while Eastern
Connecticut won the Little East crown with 88.0 points. |

Senior
Joe Parenteau (Smithfield,
RI)
leaves RIC holding the school record as part of the 4x400 meter relay
team, which logged a time of 3:28.26 in 2003. |

|
|
As a senior
in 2005, Parenteau placed 13th in the 800 meters with a
time of 2:06.11 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. Parenteau
placed 23rd in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:39.26 at
the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |
|
|
|
Parenteau
missed all of the 2004 season with a knee injury. |
|
|
|
As a
sophomore in 2003, he placed 15th as part of the 4x400
relay team with a time of 3:36.88 at the 2003 ECAC Div. III
Championships. Parenteau placed 11th as part of the 4x400
meter relay with a time of 3:32.13 and 11th in the 1,500
meter with 4:02.67 at the Div. III New England Championships. He
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 800 and 1,500
meters, as well as the 4x400 meter relay at the 2003 Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships. Parenteau placed fifth in
the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.84, fourth in the 800 meters with
a time of 1:59.84 and first as part of the 4x400 meter relay team with
a school-record time of 3:28.26. He placed seventh in the 800 meters
with a time of 1:58.14 at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. He
placed third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:07.38 and fifth in
the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:04.70 at the Bridgewater State
College Invitational. He placed third in the 800 meters with a time of
1:58.80 at the RIC Invitational. He placed 22nd in the
5,000 meters with a time of 16:56.98 at the Husky Spring Open. |

As a
freshman in 2002, placed seventh in the 1,500 meters and 19th
in the 800 meters with season-best times of 4:10.14 and 2:08.46
respectively at the Alliance Championships. |

|

is a physical education major and a 2001 graduate of Smithfield High
School. |

Senior
Marc Piette (Woonsocket,
RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing third
with a distance of 48.69 meters at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed seventh in the hammer with a throw
of 46.62 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. Piette
placed second in the hammer with a distance of 48.40 meters at the
Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. Piette placed first in the hammer with
a distance of 16208.00 and 19th in the shot with a
distance of 3600.75 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. |

|
As a junior
in 2004, he earned All-ECAC honors in the hammer, placing third with a
throw of 16903 on May 15. He placed 14th in the hammer
with a distance of 16301 at the New England Open Championships,
hosted by Northeastern on May 7. Piette earned All-New England honors
in the hammer throw, placing eighth with a throw of 164'08" at the
N.E. Div. III Championships on May 1. He earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors by placing first in the hammer throw with a season-best
distance of 17107 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr.
24. He also placed 15th in the shot with a distance of
3506.50. He placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of
16309 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 17. He placed first
in the hammer throw with a distance of 15302 and fifth in the shot
with a season-best distance of 3704 at the Bryant College
Invitational on Apr. 10. He finished third in the hammer throw with a
distance of 15108 and ninth in the shot with a distance of 3604 at
the RIC Invitational on Apr. 3. He placed sixth in the hammer throw
with a distance of 15608" at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 27. |

|
As a
sophomore in 2003, he earned All-ECAC honors in the hammer, placing
third with a throw of 17010.00. He earned All-New England honors in
the hammer, placing fifth with a distance of 16507.00. He placed
tenth in the shot with a throw of 3707.25 and ninth in the discus at
10211.00 at the 2003 Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships. He placed 12th in the shot with a
distance of 11.62 meters and 20th in the discus with a
distance of 26.46 meters at the Bernard Solomon Husky Invitational. He
placed third in the hammer with a distance of 15204.00, eighth in
the discus with a distance of 9511.00 and sixth in the shot with a
distance of 3606.50 at the Bridgewater State College Invitational.
Piette placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 49.05 meters at the
Husky Spring Open. |

Piette is a
physical education and health major and is a 2000 graduate of
Woonsocket High School. Before coming to RIC, Piette competed for the
Community College of Rhode Island. |

Junior
Tim Goodwin (Warwick,
RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 3,000 meter
steeplechase, placing seventh with a time of 10:49.43 at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on May 1. He placed 24th in the
1,500 meters with a time of 4:28.04 at the Solomon Husky Invitational
on Apr. 23. He placed ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a
time of 10:51.11 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. He placed 11th
in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:45.02 at the Bryant Invitational
on Apr. 9. He placed 19th in the 1,500 meters with a time
of 4:27.46 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |

Junior
Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in four events, placing second in the 400 meters, third in the
800 meters, third as part of the 4x400 meter relay and seventh as part
of the 4x100 meter relay with times of 50.28, 2:01.24, 3:33.39 and
45.22, respectively at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on May 1.
He placed 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.92 at
the New England Div. III Championships on May 6-7. He placed seventh
in the 200 meters with a time of 23.22 at the Solomon Husky
Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed first in the 800 meters with a
time of 1:55.62 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. He placed third
in the 400 meters and 11th in the 1,500 meters with times
of 50.21 and 4:19.44, respectively, at the Snowflake Classic on Mar.

Nick Palazzo (Johnston,

competed at the ECAC Div. III Championships in the hammer throw. He
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing fourth
with a distance of 46.26 meters at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed sixth in the hammer with a throw of
48.0 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed
first in the hammer with a distance of 51.42 meters at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. Palazzo placed third in the hammer with a
distance of 15403.00 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. |

earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the hammer, placing fifth
with a distance of 45.10 meters at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed eighth in the hammer with a throw of
44.47 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed
third in the hammer with a distance of 47.81 meters at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. He placed fourth in the hammer throw with a

Matt Goroza (West

earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x400 and 4x100
meter relay teams, placing third with a time of 3:33.39 and seventh
with a time of 45.22, respectively, and he also placed 32nd
in the 200 meters with a time of 25.02 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed 18th in the 100 meter and
21st in the 200 meters with times of 12.43 and 25.08,
respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed
17th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.69 at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. Goroza placed 28th in both the
200 and 400 meters with times of 24.72 and 56.62, respectively, at the
Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. Goroza placed 19th in the
400 meters with a time of 57.38 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |

Eric Lonergan (North
Kingstown, RI)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the 1,500 meters, placing
seventh with a time of 4:13.04 and also placed ninth in the 5,000
meters with a time of 16:28.37 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed 22nd in the 800 meters
and 21st in the 1,500 meters with times of 2:11.00 and
4:19.07, respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23.
He placed 12th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 16:38.15
at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. Lonergan placed ninth in the
1,500 meters with a time of 4:16.68 at the Bryant Invitational on Apr.
9. He placed seventh in the 5,000 meters with a time 16:08.31 at the
Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |

Bo Luong (Millbury,
MA)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of the 4x100 meter
relay team, which placed seventh with a time of 45.22, and he also
placed tenth in the long jump with a leap of 6.06 meters at the LEC/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on May 1. He placed 15th in the long
jump with a leap of 5.61 meters. Luong placed third in the triple jump
with a leap of 13.88 meters at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. He
placed tenth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump with leaps
of 1810.00 and 3810.00, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational
on Apr. 9. |

Dan Newman (Smithfield,

earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the high jump, tying for fourth
place with a leap of 1.86 meters and also placed ninth in the 400
meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.13 at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed first in the high jump with a leap
of 1.89 meters and placed tenth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time
of 1:05.06 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. He placed second in
the high jump with a leap of 602.00 at the Bryant Invitational on
Apr. 9. He placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of
600.00 at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |

javelin with throws of 27.05 meters and 28.66 meters, respectively at

28.38 meters and 26.16 meters, respectively, at the Solomon Husky
Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed fifth in the discus with a throw

placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 52.98 at the Solomon
Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. He placed tenth in the 800 meters with

placed 14th in the 400 meters with a time of 53.47 at the
Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. He placed 18th in the 400

All-Alliance/Little East honors in six events. He placed fifth in the
100 meters, sixth in the 200 meters, third as part of the 4x400 meter
relay and seventh as part of the 4x100 meter relay with times of
11.50, 23.36, 3:33.39 and 45.22, respectively, as well as eighth in
the long jump and fourth in the triple jump with leaps of 6.14 meters
and 12.83 meters, respectively at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. He placed eighth in the 100 meters and ninth
in the 200 meters with times of 11.96 and 23.47, respectively, and was
seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.28 meters at the Solomon
Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. Wright placed fourth in the triple jump
with a leap of 4107.75, as well as 15th in the 200 meters
with a time of 27.01, at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |
