2005 Rhode Island College
Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Season Summary
|
|
Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2005 women’s outdoor
track and field season at the ECAC Div. III Championships, hosted by
Springfield College on Thursday and Friday, May 19-20. RIC finished in
a tie for 47th place (68 teams) with a score of 1.0.
Oneonta State won the championship with a team score of 48. RIC had
one competitor earn All-ECAC honors. |

The
Anchorwomen competed at the New England Div. III Championships, hosted
by Bates College on Friday and Saturday, May 6-7. The Anchorwomen
placed 14th (27 teams) with a team score of 22.0. Williams
won the meet with a team score of 198. Three Anchorwomen earned
All-New England honors. |

|
|
RIC
competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships,
hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Sunday, May 1. RIC placed seventh overall
(ten teams) and fourth (five teams) in the Little East with team
scores of 51.0 and 64.0, respectively. Southern Maine won the Alliance
and the Little East titles with scores of 259.50 and 295.0,
respectively. |

Senior
Kate McCalligett (Warwick,
RI)
leaves Rhode Island College holding the school record in the 400
meters with a time of 59.10, set this spring. |
|
|
|
As a senior
in 2005, she earned All-ECAC honors in the 400 meters with an eighth
place finish with a time of 59.11. She earned All-New England honors
in both the 200 and 400 meters. She placed seventh in the 200 meters
with a time of 27.20 and third in the 400 meters with a new RIC-record
time of 59.10 at the New England Div. III Championships on May 19-20.
She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events. She placed
seventh in the 100 meters, third in the 200 meters, second in the 400
meters and sixth as part of the 4x100 meter relay with times of 13.76,
27.10, 60.52 and 52.89, respectively at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on May 1. McCalligett placed sixth in the 100
meters and second in the 400 meters with times of 13.55 and 1:00.32,
respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. She
placed 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.03 at the
Albany Invitational on Apr. 16. She placed fifth in the 200 meters and
fourth in the 400 meters with times of 26.89 and 1:00.65,
respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. |

As a junior
in 2004, she placed 16th in the 200 meters with a
season-best time of 26.00 and 18th in the 400 meters with a
time of 1:00.48 at the ECAC Championships on May 15. She placed 20th
in the 200 meters and 17th in the 400 meters with times of
27.18 and 1:00.14, respectively, at the New England Open Championships
on May 7. McCalligett earned All-New England honors in the 400 meters,
placing fourth with a time of 1:00.65 at the N.E. Div. III
Championships on May 1. She also placed ninth in the 200 meters with a
time of 27.06. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four
events at the LEC/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Apr. 24. She
finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.05, third in the
400 meters with a new school record time of 59.54, fourth as a part of
the 4x100 meter relay team with a time of 51.20 and third as a member
of the 4x400 meter relay team with a time of 4:24.63. She placed
eighth in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 2:28.04 at the
Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 17. She placed fourth in the 100
meters with a season-best time of 13.45 and third in the 200 meters
with a time of 27.37 at the Bryant College Invitational on Apr. 10.
She finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.90 and
fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.72 at the RIC Invitational
on Apr. 3. She placed eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.80
at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 27. |

As a
sophomore in 2003, she was named the team’s MVP, McCalligett placed 13th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.24 and 24th in the
200 meters with a time of 26.87 at the ECAC Div. III Championships.
She placed 12th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.19 at
the New England Div. III Championships. |

As a
freshman in 2002, she placed 12th in the 400 meters and 22nd
in the 200 meters with times of 1:02.31 and 27:08 at the ECAC Div. III
Championships. She earned All-New England honors in both the 200 and
400 meters at the New England Div. III Championships. She placed
seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 27.13 and eighth in the 400
meters with a time of 1:00.45, matching her season-best time. She
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 200 meters and 400
meters, placing first in the 400 meters with a season-best time of
1:00.45 and third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.32, at the
Alliance Championships. She placed first in the 200 meters with a
season-best time of 26.87 at the RIC Invitational. |

McCalligett
is a nursing major and a 2001 graduate of Pilgrim High School.
McCalligett also competed for RIC’s indoor track & field team. |

|
Junior
Jessica Leonard (Warwick, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the hammer, placing fourth with a distance of 37.17 meters
and also placed 16th in the discus with a throw of 20.94
meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on
May 1. She placed 19th in the discus and sixth in the
hammer with throws of 18.93 meters and 37.50 meters, respectively, at
the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. She placed eighth in the
hammer with a throw of 36.70 at the Albany Invitational on Apr. 16.
Leonard placed fifth in the hammer with a distance of 124’08.00” at
the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. |

Junior
Dana Skorupa (Cumberland, RI) competed in two events at the ECAC
Div. III Championships. She placed 15th in the
preliminaries of the 100 meters with a time of 12.87 and 14th
in the 200 meters with a time of 26.88. Skorupa earned All-New England
honors in both the 100 and 200 meters. Skorupa placed fourth in the
100 meters with a time of 13.18. She placed second in the 200 meters
with a time of 26.20 at the New England Div. III Championships on May
19-20. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events. She
placed second in the 100 meters, first in the 200 meters and sixth as
part of the 4x100 meter relay with times of 12.72, 26.48 and 52.89,
respectively, as well as third in the long jump with a leap of 4.92
meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on
May 1. Skorupa placed third in the 100 meters and second in the 200
meters with times of 13.08 and 27.35, respectively, as well as seventh
in the long jump with a leap of 4.77 meters at the Solomon Husky
Invitational on Apr. 23. She placed sixth in both the 100 and 200
meters with times of 12.98 and 26.51, respectively, at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. She placed first in both the 100 and 200
meters with times of 12.72 and 26.39, respectively, and fourth in the
long jump with a leap of 15’09.00” at the Bryant Invitational on Apr.
9. Skorupa placed third in the 100 meters and seventh in the long jump
with results of 13.12 and 15’07.00”, respectively, at the Snowflake
Classic on Mar. 26. |

Sophomore
Maggie Wenc (Pawtucket, RI) placed 14th in the
discus and 17th in the hammer with throws of 22.54 and
23.57 meters, respectively at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on May 1. She placed 17th in the
discus and 13th in the hammer with throws of 20.46 meters
and 19.90 meters, respectively, at the Solomon Husky Invitational on
Apr. 23. She placed seventh in the discus and tenth in the hammer
with throws of 22.46 and 21.91, respectively, at the Albany
Invitational on Apr. 16. She placed 18th in the discus and
16th in the hammer throw with distances of 69’09.00” and
73’05.00”, respectively, at the Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. |

Freshman
Katelyn Courtot (Smithfield, RI) earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors as part of the 4x100 meter relay team, which placed sixth with
a time of 52.89 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. She placed 26th in the 800 meters
with a time of 2:42.01 at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. |

Freshman
Kelly Evans (Coventry, RI) placed 11th in the long jump
with a leap of 4.98 meters at the ECAC Div. III Championships. She
earned All-New England honors in the long jump, placing eighth with a
leap of 4.93 meters at the New England Div. III Championships on May
19-20. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in the long jump and
triple jump with leaps of 4.60 and 9.97 meters, as well as the 4x100
meter relay with a time of 52.89. She also placed ninth in the 400
meters with a time of 65.62 and ninth in the high jump with a leap of
1.42 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships on May 1. Evans placed 11th in the 200 meters
with a time of 29.10 and was fifth in the long jump with a leap of
4.80 meters at the Solomon Husky Invitational on Apr. 23. She placed
third in the high jump and seventh in the triple jump with leaps of
1.55 and 9.96 meters, respectively, at the Albany Invitational on Apr.
16. Evans placed second in the long jump and seventh in the triple
jump with leaps of 15’10.00” and 31’09.50”, respectively, at the
Bryant Invitational on Apr. 9. Evans placed 16th in the 200
meters and fourth in the long jump with efforts of 29.45 and
16’01.00”, respectively, at the Snowflake Classic on Mar. 26. |
