Rhode Island College Wrestling Update #6

(8-2 Overall; 3-0 in the NECCWA; 0-0 in the Pilgrim League)

Providence, RI--Head Coach Jay Jones’ team is currently ranked fourth in New England among Div. III institutions and eighth among all institutions in New England (Div. I, II, III). The Anchormen are 8-2 overall, 3-0 against New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) opposition and have yet to face a Pilgrim Wrestling League opponent.

RIC stayed unbeaten in NECCWA competition with a, 31-10, victory over Williams at home on Jan. 12. The Anchormen traveled to Lycoming College on Jan. 14-15 to take part in the always difficult Budd Whitehill Duals and faced some of the best competition in the country.

The Anchormen dropped their first two matches, falling to Loras, 29-9, and Heidelberg, 21-17, on Jan. 14. RIC rebounded to take its next two matches, defeating Thiel, 24-16, and Baldwin-Wallace, 36-9, on Jan. 15.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at NECCWA rival WPI on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. The Anchormen will then see action at the New England Duals, hosted by Bridgewater State, on Sunday, Jan. 23.

Senior Justin Deveau (North Attleboro, MA) is ranked second in New England at 197 lbs. He is 19-5 at 285/197 lbs. with 78 points, 33 takedowns, four reversals, eight near-falls and five pins. He placed third at 285 lbs. at the RWU Invitational on Nov. 13 and second at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29.

Senior Luke Emmons (West Greenwich, RI) is ranked second in the New England rankings at 141 lbs. He is 19-5 at 141 lbs. with 73 points, 35 takedowns, 12 reversals, five near-falls and four pins. Emmons placed second at 141 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13 and at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4. He placed fourth at 141 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29.

Senior Keith Nelson (Rhinebeck, NY) is ranked third in New England at 174 lbs. He is 22-8 at 174 lbs. with 84 points, 44 takedowns, five reversals, nine near-falls and three pins. He placed second at the RWU Invitational on Nov. 13, third at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20 and fifth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4 in the 174 lbs. weight class. Nelson took home third place at 174 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29.

Junior Arty Privedenyuk (Springfield, MA) is ranked sixth in New England at 165 lbs. He is 18-10 at 165 lbs. with 82 points, 22 takedowns, 17 reversals, 23 near-falls and seven pins. He placed third at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13, fourth at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20 and sixth at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4 at 165 lbs.

Senior Dave Paquette (Ledyard, CT) is ranked sixth in New England at 157 lbs. He is 14-9 at 157 lbs. with 54 points, 37 takedowns, six reversals, four near-falls and one pin. He placed sixth at 157 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20. Paquette placed fifth at 157 lbs. at the Citrus Invitational on Dec. 29.

Sophomore Ray Hanley (Wantagh, NY) is ranked sixth in New England at 125 lbs. He is 12-8 at 125 lbs. with 52 points, 12 takedowns, ten reversals, eight near-falls and four pins.

Sophomore Olutosin Taylor (Copiague, NY) is ranked sixth in New England at 197 lbs. Taylor is 4-4 at 197 lbs. with 18 points, five takedowns, four reversals and two pins on the season. He placed sixth at 197 lbs. at the Doug Parker Invitational on Nov. 20.

Junior Todd Bloom (Wantagh, NY) is 9-9 at 133 lbs. with 30 points, 18 takedowns, four reversals, six near-falls and one pin. Bloom placed second at 133 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13.

Sophomore Ryan DeSisto (Warwick, RI) placed fifth at 141 lbs. at the R.I.T. Invitational on Dec. 4. He is 7-6 at 141 lbs. with 30 points, 17 takedowns, two reversals, two near-falls and two pins.

Junior B.J. Atkinson (Danbury, CT) is 7-5 at 285 lbs. with 36 points, 12 takedowns, two near-falls and four pins. He placed fifth at 285 lbs. at the Roger Williams Invitational on Nov. 13.

Senior Matt Kelly (Carver, MA) is 7-6 at 157 lbs. with 36 points, eight takedowns, three reversals, seven near-falls and five pins.

Freshman Kevin Davis (Amston, CT) is 12-11 at 174 lbs. with 50 points, seven takedowns, ten reversals, seven near-falls and two pins.

Freshman Brendan Casey (Lowell, MA) is 4-6 at 165 lbs. with 14 points, 14 takedowns, five reversals and three near-falls.

Junior Richard Chute (Wrentham, MA) is 6-8 at 141 lbs. with 20 points, 23 takedowns, two reversals and two near-falls.

Sophomore Ian Coyne (Amston, CT) is 3-12 at 157 lbs. with nine points, six takedowns and two reversals.

Freshman Eric Fama (Wappingers Falls, NY) is 7-9 at 149 lbs. with 30 points, ten takedowns, four reversals and two near-falls.

Senior Eddy German (Providence, RI) is 0-2 at 125 lbs. with two takedowns.

Freshman Damien Hebert (Woonsocket, RI) is 5-12 at 184 lbs. with 21 points, six takedowns, three reversals, four near-falls and one pin.

Sophomore Eric Martell (Chepachet, RI) is 5-5 at 184 lbs. with 21 points, four takedowns and two pins.

Sophomore Colin Smith (Wading River, NY) is 2-9 at 165 lbs. with seven points, five takedowns, three reversals and three near-falls.

Freshman Jeff Smith (Lowell, MA) is 0-2 at 125 lbs. with one takedown.

Freshman Andrew Blanchard (Warwick, RI) is 0-2 at 141 lbs.
