Rhode Island College Men’s Indoor Track & Field Update #4

Providence, RI--Head Coach Kevin Jackson’s team competed at the Tufts University Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 22 and placed ninth (12 teams) with a team score of 19.0. Tufts won the meet with a team score of 199.

Junior Manny Karngar (Providence, RI) placed first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.20. He placed first in the 400 meters and second in the 200 meters with times of 50.58 and 23.24, respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 50.04 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. He placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.68 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Sophomore Dan Newman (Smithfield, RI) placed first in the high jump with a leap of 1.93 meters and was named the Little East Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. He placed second in the high jump with a height of 1.93 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.86 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11.

Freshman Jordan Wright (Brookline, MA) placed tenth in preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time of 6.88 and eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.33 meters. He placed sixth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.88, fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.76, second in the long jump with a leap of 6.19 meters and first in the triple jump with a distance of 12.56 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 13^th in the 200 meters with a time of 23.26 and 14^th in long jump with a leap of 5.96 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Wright placed tenth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.83, ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.79 and ninth in the long jump with a distance of 19’06.00” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Senior Marc Piette (Woonsocket, RI) placed third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.60 meters. He placed second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.41 meters and sixth in the shot put with a distance of 11.61 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.30 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11.

Sophomore Eric Lonergan (North Kingstown, RI) placed 24^th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:39.63. He placed fifth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:44.68 and seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:19.04 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 23^rd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.38 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Lonergan placed tenth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:50.14 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Sophomore John Martinelli (North Providence, RI) placed 12^th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.83 and eighth in the 400 meters with a time of 55.72 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 41^st in the 400 meters with a time of 55.14 and 55^th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.68 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Martinelli placed ninth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.24 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Freshman Greg Clark (Pawtucket, RI) placed 21^st in the mile with a time of 4:47.27. Clark placed eighth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.28 and 13^th in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:03.37 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He 31^st in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.65 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. He placed fourth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:43.04 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Freshman Yevgeny Kuo (Brookline, MA) placed 46^th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.35 and 21^st in the long jump with a leap of 5.76 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. He placed 14th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.73 and 12^th in the long jump with a distance of 18’05.25” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Freshman Mike Van Gieson (Foster, RI) placed 13^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.39. He placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.29 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 30^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.42 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Van Gieson placed sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.22 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Sophomore Bo Luong (Millbury, MA) placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters. He placed third in the long jump with a leap of 5.90 meters and third in the triple jump with a distance of 12.00 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 18^th in the long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11.

Junior Tim Goodwin (Warwick, RI) placed 16^th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:55.81. He placed seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:31.53 and 13^th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.96 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15.

Sophomore Matt Goroza (West Warwick, RI) placed 17^th in the 400 meters with a time of 57.18. He placed 16^th in the 200 meters with a time of 26.06 and 12^th in the 500 meters with a time of 1:14.67 at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed 73^rd in the 200 meters with a time of 25.67 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. Goroza placed 23^rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.35 and 13^th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.82 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4.

Freshman Sam Gaye (Providence, RI) placed 21^st in the 800 meters with a time of 2:12.93.

Junior Rich Palazzo (Johnston, RI) placed 10^th in the weight throw with a distance of 11.90 meters.

In upcoming action, RIC will compete at the Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29.
