Manny Karngar Qualifies For NCAA
Div. III Track Championships
|
|
|
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College sophomore Manny Karngar (Providence,
RI)
has
qualified for the NCAA Div. III Men’s Track and Field Championships in
the 800 meters. The NCAA Championships will be held on Friday and
Saturday, Mar. 11-12 at Illinois Western University. This will be his
first trip to an NCAA competition. |

Karngar
qualified for the NCAA Championships with a second place, 1:53.13
effort in the preliminary round of the 800 meters at the New England
Open Championships, hosted by Boston University, on Feb. 26. He went
on to place sixth in the finals of that event with a time of 1:53.76. |

|
|
In other
action this season, Karngar earned All-New England honors in the 600
meters, placing first with a time of 1:21.12, at the New England Div.
III Championships on Feb. 19. He earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in three events, placing second in the 400 meters and fifth in
both the 200 and 800 meters with times of 50.59, 23.56 and 2:04.42,
respectively, at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12. |

He placed
first in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.02 at the Tufts
Invitational Feb. 5. He placed first in the 600 meters and fourth in
the mile with times of 1:22.88 and 4:30.95, respectively, at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. Karngar placed first in the
800 meters with a time of 1:55.20 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan.
22. He placed first in the 400 meters and second in the 200 meters
with times of 50.58 and 23.25, respectively, at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. He placed fourth in the 400 meters with a
time of 50.04 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. He placed second
in the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.68 at the Alden Invitational on
Dec. 4. |

He is a
finance major and a 2002 graduate of Shea High School in Pawtucket.
Karngar also runs cross country and outdoor track for the Anchormen. |

|
In upcoming
action, Karngar will compete at the ECAC Div. III Championships,
hosted by St. Lawrence, on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 4-5. |
