2004-05 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2004-05 season at
the Last Chance Meet, hosted by Trinity College at Yale on
Saturday, Mar. 5. |
|
|
|
|
|
The Anchorwomen competed at the New England Div. III
Championships, hosted by Smith College, on Feb. 18-19. RIC placed
11th (24 teams) with 21.0 points. |
|
|
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by Southern Maine, on Feb. 12. RIC placed
fourth overall and third in the Little East with scores of 68.0
and 68.0, respectively. |
|
|
|
|
|
As a team, RIC set two program records this season. |
|
|
|
|
|
Senior
Kate McCalligett (Warwick,
RI)
closed
out her indoor career as the RIC record-holder in two events. She
holds the program records in the 400 meters, with a time of 59.11
set this winter, and in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:29.01 set
in 2003-04. |
|
|
|
|
|
As a
senior in 2004-05, McCalligett earned All-New England honors in
the 200 and 400 meters, placing fourth and first with times of
26.62 and 59.97, respectively, at the New England Div. III
Championships on Feb. 19. She earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in five events at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
She placed sixth in the 55 meters with a time of 7.76, second in
the 200 meters with a time of 26.86, and second in the 400 meters
with a time of 1:00.47. McCalligett earned All-Alliance/Little
East honors as part of both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams,
which placed third and second with times of 1:54.08 and 4:22.27,
respectively. |

In other
action this winter, McCalligett placed sixth in the 200 meters and
tenth in the 400 meters with times of 26.53 and 59.74,
respectively, at the Last Chance Meet on Mar. 5. McCalligett
placed 21st in the 200 meters with a time of 26.51 and
13th in the 400 meters with a program-record time of
59.11 at the New England Open Championships on Feb. 26. She
placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.29 at the
Tufts Invitational on Feb. 5. McCalligett placed third in the 55
meters, first in the 200 meters and second in the 400 meters with
times of 7.73, 27.07 and 1:00.88, respectively, at the Southern
Maine Invitational on Jan. 29. McCalligett placed first in the 400
meters and fifth in the 55 meter dash with times of 1:02.04 and
7.81, respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. She
placed 11th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.49 at
the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. She placed 15th in the 200
meter dash with a time of 27.38 and eighth in the 400 meters with
a time of 1:01.91 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |

As a
junior in 2003-04, she
placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.92 at the ECAC
Championships. McCalligett earned All-New England honors in one
event. She placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.30. |
|
|
|
McCalligett finished 19th in the preliminary round of
the 55 meters with a time of 8.02 at the Tufts Invitational. She
placed third in both the 55 and 200 meters as well as second in
the 400 meters with times of 7.70, 26.92 and a school-record
59.80, respectively at the Southern Maine Invitational.
McCalligett placed 11th in the preliminary round of the
55 meters with a time of 7.75 and ninth in the 800 meters with a
school-record time of 2:29.06 at the Tufts Invitational. She
finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.00 and fourth
in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time of 7.74 at
the Wesleyan University Invitational. She placed 12th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.74 and 14th in
the semi-final round of the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.90 at
the Yale Classic. She finished tenth in the 400 meters with a time
of 1:02.06 at the Harvard Invitational. She placed sixth in the
400 meters with a time of 1:02.60 at the Alden Invitational. |

As a sophomore in 2002-03, McCalligett
placed
21st in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.69 at the
ECAC Championships. She earned All-New England honors in the 400
meters, placing eighth with a time of 1:01.02 at the New England
Championships. McCalligett placed 13th in the 200
meters with a time of 27.18 at the same meet. McCalligett earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in both the 400 and 200 meters.
She placed second in the 400 meters with a time of 61:32 and
fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.18. |

McCalligett
placed
third in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7:86 at the Southern
Maine Invitational. She placed third in the 200 meters with a time
of 27.27 and second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.02 at
the same meet. McCalligett placed 36th in the 400
meters with a time of 1:00.11 at the Terrier Classic. She placed
fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.41 at the Greater
Boston Track Club Invitational. McCalligett placed 21st
in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.91 and fifth in the 400
meters with a time of 1:02.46 at the Yale Invitational. She placed
14th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.66 and 11th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.35 at the Harvard
Invitational. McCalligett placed 11th in the 400 meters
with a time of 1:04.12 at the Brown Invitational. |

|
As a
freshman in 2001-02, she earned All-New England honors, placing
seventh in the 400 meters with a school record time of 1:00.37.
She also placed ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.40
at that same meet. McCalligett earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in both the 200 and 400 meters. She placed second in the
400 meters with a time of 1:00.73 and third in the 200 meters with
a season-best time of 27.25. McCalligett placed first in both the
200 and 400 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 26
with times of 27.59 and 1:01.34 respectively. |

She is a
nursing major and a 2001 graduate of Pilgrim High School. |

|
|
Junior
Dana Skorupa (Cumberland,
RI)
earned All-New England honors in the 55 meters and 200 meters,
placing fifth and seventh with times of 7.42 and 26.92,
respectively, at the New England Div. III Championships on Feb.
19. She also placed in a tie for tenth in the long jump with a
leap of 4.82 meters. She earned All-Alliance/Little East honors in
five events, placing first in the 55 meters and 200 meters with
times of 7.41 and 26.78, respectively, at the Alliance
Championships on Feb. 12. Skorupa earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors as part of both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams,
which placed third and second with times of 1:54.08 and 4:22.27,
respectively. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap
of 16’05.25”. |

In other
action this winter, Skorupa placed seventh in the 200 meters with
a time of 26.65 at the Last Chance meet on Mar. 5. Skorupa also
placed tenth in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time
of 7.53. She placed tenth in 55 meters with a time of 7.51 and 17th
in the 200 meters with a program-record time of 26.33 at
the New England Open Championships on Feb. 26. She was the highest
Div. III competitor in both events. She placed second in
the 200 meters with a time of 27.18 and fourth in the long jump
with a leap of 4.82 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Feb. 5.
Skorupa placed second in the 55 meters, third in the 200 meters
and first in the long jump with times of 7.52 and 27.32,
respectively, and a leap of 16’09.00” at the Southern Maine
Invitational on Jan. 29. She placed first in the 55 meters with a
time of 7.57 and third in the long jump with a leap of 4.79 meters
at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. She placed first in the 55
meter dash with a time of 7.68, second in the 200 meters with a
time of 28.08 and first in the long jump with a leap of 4.87
meters at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. For her efforts,
she was named the Little East Conference Track Women’s Track
Athlete of the Week. She placed 12th in the 200 meters
with a time of 26.96 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 11. She
placed ninth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.64 and 13th
in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.25 at the Alden
Invitational on Dec. 4. |

Sophomore Maggie Wenc (Pawtucket,
RI)
placed
23rd in the weight throw with a distance of 6.14 meters
at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. She placed ninth in the
weight throw with a distance of 5.81 meters at the Wesleyan
Invitational on Jan. 15. |

Freshman
Michelle Batchelder (Vernon,
CT)
earned All-Alliance/Little East honors three events at the
Alliance Championships on Feb. 12. She placed seventh in the 800
meters with a time of 2:40.88 and was part of both the 4x200 and
4x400 meter relay teams, which placed third and second with times
of 1:54.08 and 4:22.27, respectively. She placed 16th
in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:43.31 at the Tufts
Invitational on Feb. 5. Batchelder placed ninth in the 3,000
meters with a time of 11:52.07 at the Alden Invitational on Dec.
4. |

Freshman
Kelly Evans (Coventry,
RI)
tied for
tenth in the long jump with a leap of 4.82 meters at the New
England Open Championships on Feb. 19. She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in four events, placing fifth in
the 600 meters with a time of 1:51.88 and fifth in the long jump
with a leap of 16’01.75” at the Alliance Championships on Feb. 12.
Evans earned All-Alliance/Little East honors as part of both the
4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams, which placed third and second
with times of 1:54.08 and 4:22.27, respectively. She placed 11th
in the high jump with a leap of 4’08.00”. She placed 14th
in the 200 meters with a time of 29.13 and was third in the long
jump with a leap of 4.89 meters at the Tufts Invitational on Feb.
5. Evans placed sixth in the high jump, sixth in the long jump and
fourth in the triple jump with leaps of 4’10.00”, 15’08.25” and
31’03.00”, respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on
Jan. 29. She placed second in the long jump and 10th in
the high jump with leaps of 4.82 and 1.47 meters, respectively, at
the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 22. Evans placed second in both the
high jump and long jump, with leaps of 1.42 and 4.69 meters,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 15. For her
efforts, she was named the Little East Conference Women’s Field
Athlete of the Week. She placed 12th in the triple
jump and 16th in the long jump with leaps of 9.76
meters and 4.77 meters, respectively at the Harvard Invitational
on Dec. 11. She placed 12th in the long jump with a
distance of 14’03.25” at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 4. |
