Women’s Volleyball Update #1

(4-4 Overall; 0-0 in the Little
East Conference)

Coach Craig Letourneau’s team is 4-4 on the season and has yet
to face a Little East Conference opponent. |

Anchorwomen
Notables |
|
• RIC opened
the season at the Springfield College Invitational on Friday and
Saturday, Sept. 2-3. RIC dropped its first two matches, falling, 3-1,
to Roger Williams and Springfield, 3-0, on Friday night. The
Anchorwomen came back and won the next two matches, defeating
Brandeis, 3-1 and Suffolk, 3-0. RIC’s 2-2 mark at the tourney was good
for second place. |

• The
Anchorwomen competed at the Williams College Invitational on Friday
and Saturday, Sept. 9-10. RIC took the first match with a 3-0 win over
Bates, but then lost to Tufts, 3-0. The Anchorwomen came back on
Saturday and split their final two matches, falling, 3-0, to host
Williams, and defeating Lasell, 3-1. |

• Senior
outside hitter Kristy Nix (East
Setauket, NY)
was named to the Williams College Invitational All-Tournament Team.
For the season, Nix owns a .223 hitting percentage (98-42-251) in 27
games. She leads the club with 98 kills and is second with 87 digs. |
|
• Junior
middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston,
RI)
was named to the Springfield College Invitational All-Tournament team.
Miga leads the team with 54 blocks and has also posted a .266 hitting
percentage (69-23-173). She is second on the team with 69 kills.
For
her efforts, she has been named the Little East Conference Women’s
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. |

• Nix, along
with senior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North
Kingstown, RI)
and senior right side hitter Sara Chamberland (Coventry,
RI)
will captain the team for the 2005 season. |
