HUSKIES EARN FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
WITH, 4-1, VICTORY OVER RIC
|

Providence, RI—Southern
Maine improved its record to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in the Little East
Conference with a 4-1 victory over Rhode Island College on Sunday
afternoon. RIC, which started the season 3-0, loses its second
straight game and falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the LEC. |

The Huskies
came out on fire offensively as they opened up a 3-0 lead in the first
16:25 of the game. Senior midfielder Devin Edwards (South
Paris, ME)
scored off a corner kick a mere 1:19 into the contest. Junior forward
Julia Cyr (Standish,
ME)
took the corner, which was crossed in front of the net to senior
midfielder Dianna Thibaudeau (Sanford,
ME)
who headed the ball over to Edwards for the score. |

Cyr scored
one of her own in the 11th minute and senior forward Eva
Hanson (Warner, NH) tallied in the 17th minute. Both
goals were set up by senior forward Liz Brunton (Birch
Harbor, ME).

|
|
USM held
the, 3-0, lead until RIC sophomore forward Gina Calenda (Warren,
RI)
was hauled down in front of the Huskies net and promptly scored on a
penalty kick in the 57th minute. |

|
|
Brunton
capped a four-point afternoon with a goal of her own in the 73rd
minute. |
|
|
|
USM
freshman goalkeeper Mindy Morneault (Eagle
Lake, MA)
made four saves to improve her record to 3-1. RIC freshman goalkeeper
Krissie Pyzynski (Bristol,
CT)
made four saves in a losing effort as her record dips to 3-2 on the
season. |
