Rhode Island College Men’s Soccer Update #2

(2-3 Overall; 1-0 in the Little East Conference)

Providence, RI--Head Coach John Mello’s team is 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the Little East Conference. The Anchormen are tied with Keene State, Plymouth State and Eastern Connecticut for first place atop the LEC standings.

Anchormen Notables

• RIC played at Bowdoin, one of the top teams in New England, on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The Anchormen lost, 5-2. Both of RIC’s goals were scored by senior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren, RI). Freshman forward Tyrell Burgess (Smiths, Bermuda) assisted on both goals.

• The Anchormen earned their first Little East Conference victory of the season with a 1-0 win at Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 17. Teixeira scored the game’s only goal on a direct kick from 25 yards out. Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset, MA) made one save to earn his second career shutout.

• Teixeira currently has 69 career goals and 18 career assists for 156 career points. He is the Anchormen’s all-time leader in career goals and points.
