Anchorwomen Notables |
|
•
RIC’s 6-2 record is the best eight-game start to a season since the
1999 squad went 7-1 in their first eight contests. The Anchorwomen are
currently on their second three-game winning streak of the season. |
|
•
The Anchorwomen defeated Westfield State, 2-0, on Wednesday, Sept. 21.
Sophomore forward Gina Calenda (Warren,
RI)
and junior forward Erika Haaland (North
Dartmouth, MA)
each scored goals to lead the Anchorwomen to the non-conference
victory. Senior defender Katie Benevides (North
Dighton, MA)
and sophomore midfielder Michaela Bileau (Woonsocket,
RI)
each assisted on the goals. |
|
•
RIC earned its first Little East Conference victory of the season with
a 1-0 win at
UMass Boston
on Saturday, Sept. 24. Michaela Bileau’s goal in the 24th
minute was the only scoring of the day. Calenda and sophomore
midfielder Krista MacKinnon (Exeter,
RI)
assisted on the goal. |
|
•
On a rare Sunday afternoon contest, RIC defeated St. Joseph’s (ME),
2-1, on Sept. 25. The Anchorwomen scored first when junior midfielder
Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth,
RI)
launched a long shot that eluded the goaltender. After St. Joseph’s
tied the game, Haaland headed in a corner kick from MacKinnon in the
70th minute to score the game-winning goal. |
