Women’s Volleyball Update #3

Providence, RI--Head
Coach Craig Letourneau’s team is 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the
Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen are tied with Keene State for
third place in the LEC. |

Anchorwomen Notables |
|
• RIC began the week with a 3-1 home win over Wesleyan University on
Tuesday, Sept. 27. Senior outside hitter Kristy Nix (East
Setauket, NY)
led the way with a game-high 22 kills to go along with ten digs and
one block. Junior middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston,
RI)
was second on the team in kills with six as she totaled a team-high
three blocks. Senior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North
Kingstown, RI)
led the squad with 15 digs while serving up a game-high six aces. The
victory over the Cardinals was the first for the Anchorwomen since the
1993 season. |

• The Anchorwomen traveled to the Bridgewater State College
Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 23 and 24 and came away
with a 1-3 record. RIC fell to Rivier, 3-0, and Fairleigh Dickinson,
3-1 on Friday. Nix led the team with 32 kills and 31 digs in the two
matches. On Saturday, RIC spilt a pair of matches, first falling to
Plymouth State, 3-2, then rebounding to defeat Clark, 3-2. Miga did
all she could against the Panthers as she compiled 26 kills, 11 blocks
and two service aces. In the victory over Clark, Nix once again led
the way with 21 kills. With her performance during the four matches,
Nix was named to the All-Tournament Team. |

• The tandem of sophomore setters Amy Souza (Tiverton,
RI)
and Jeanne Rosa (Madison,
CT)
combined for 201 assists with 94 and 107, respectively. |
|
• Freshman middle hitter Mikaela Smith (Hampton,
NH)
had her best match as an Anchorwoman, putting up double-digit kill
numbers for the first time this season with 11 in the loss to Plymouth
State. |
