The
Anchormen were one of a few teams in New England who were able to play
despite the intense rain on Saturday, Oct. 8. RIC battled LEC foe
Western Connecticut to a 0-0, double-overtime tie. It was the second
0-0 tie for the Anchormen this season (vs. Roger Williams, Sept. 29).
Sophomore goalkeeper Sean Gonsalves (Somerset,
MA)
made six saves in 110 minutes to keep his record perfect. Gonsalves is
3-0-1 on the season, having not allowed a goal in 380 minutes. |

RIC downed
Little East Conference opponent UMass Dartmouth, 2-0, at home in front
of a spirited Homecoming crowd on Saturday, Oct. 1. Burgess scored
what proved to be the game-winning goal on a direct kick in the 45th
minute. Teixiera scored the insurance goal in the 62nd
minute, chipping in a pass from junior midfielder Holman Giraldo (Pawtucket,
RI).
Gonsalves made two saves to improve his record to 3-0 on the season.
All of his wins have come by way of shutout. |

Teixeira was named the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Offensive
Player of the Week for the second time this fall. Burgess was named

RIC has a
big game coming up with second place Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The all-time mark between the two teams has the Owls holding a 27-10-1
mark (That goes back all the way to the R.I.C.E. days). Since Keene
joined the Little East in 1997, RIC is 0-9 against the Owls. RIC has
lost eight consecutive regular season games and one in the
Championship Game of the 2004 LEC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Keene State
is currently 9-1-1 overall and 3-0 (second place) in the LEC. The Owls
were unable to play this past weekend due to the inclement weather. In
the last two regular season meetings, RIC lost to Keene State, 4-1, in
2004 at Keene and, 3-2, at home in 2003. |
