Women’s Tennis Update #5

(11-1 Overall; 7-0 in the Little
East Conference)

2005 Little East Conference Regular Season Champions
|
|
Providence,
RI--Head
Coach Kelly Chartier’s team is 11-1 overall and 7-0 in the
Little East Conference. The Anchorwomen clinched their third
consecutive Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Regular Season
Championship with a 9-0 win at UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 7. RIC will
host Suffolk on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m. before taking part in
the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Championships, hosted by
Western Connecticut on Friday & Saturday, Oct. 14-15. RIC last won the
LEC Championship in 2003. |

RIC has
not lost since its first match of the season vs. Salve Regina on Sept.
3. RIC has won its last 11 matches and went 3-0 last week. RIC downed
Johnson & Wales, 7-2, on Monday, Oct. 3 and Clark, 9-0, on Thursday,
Oct. 6 prior to the UMD match. |

• The
Anchorwomen like playing on their home court and the numbers back it
up. RIC has won its last 18 home matches. The team is 6-0 at RIC this
fall, was 8-0 last season and won their final four home matches of the
2003 campaign. The last time a RIC squad lost a home dual match was a
5-4 loss to Johnson & Wales on Sept. 16, 2003. |

• RIC won 28
of its last 29 dual matches dating back to 2003. RIC is 11-1 this
season, was 13-0 in 2004 and won its last four dual matches of the
2003 season. |

Senior Liz Barrette (North
Providence, RI)
is 10-2 at #1 singles and 13-2 at #1 doubles. Freshman Megan Hall (Smithfield,
RI)
is 11-1 at #2 singles and is 13-2 at #1 doubles with Barrette.
Freshman Margaret Funk (Oakdale,
CT) is
11-1 at #3 singles and is 12-2 at #2 doubles. Sophomore Kseniya
Gurvich (Barrington,
RI)
is 5-3 at #4 singles. Junior Tara Marchant (North
Scituate, RI)
is 9-2 at #5 singles and 11-4 at #3 doubles. Sophomore Ashley
Gorman (Cumberland,
RI)
is 8-2 at #6 singles and 12-2 at #3 doubles with Marchant. Freshman
Natasha Roman (Somerset,
MA)
is 10-2 at #2 doubles with Funk. |

Funk was named the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the
Week, posting a 3-0 record at number three singles and a 2-0 mark at
number two doubles last week. |
