Coach John Mello’s team is 9-4-2 overall and 4-0-1 in the
Little East Conference. The Anchormen are currently in second place in
the Little East Conference. |

Anchormen
Notables |

•
The
Anchormen have won their last three games and are unbeaten in their
last seven. RIC has held its opponents scoreless in eight of the
team’s 15 games. |

•
RIC played
its first game in 11 days at Mitchell on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and
hammered the Pequots, 8-0. Senior forward Kyle Teixeira (Warren,
RI)
had three
goals and two assists for an eight-point afternoon. Senior defender
Matt Borges (New
Bedford)
had a goal and
two assists. Sophomore defender James Nigrelli (Ashaway,
RI),
sophomore defender Matt Souto (East
Providence, RI),
sophomore forward Richard D’Amico (Smithfield,
RI)
and freshman forward Matt Gesualdi (North
Smithfield, RI)
rounded out the goal scorers for the Anchormen. Sophomore goalkeepers
Jadon Neves (Warren,
RI)
and Sean Gonsalves (Somerset,
MA)
each played one half to earn the team shutout. |

The
Anchormen traveled to Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 22 and earned a
2-1, double-overtime victory over the Panthers. RIC trailed until the
86th minute when senior forward Chris Childs (Cranston,
RI)
came off the bench to net the equalizer. Childs scored the
game-winning goal in the 108th minute to keep the Anchormen
undefeated in LEC play. Gonsalves stayed unbeaten in the win as his
record improved to 4-0-1 in six appearances. |

The
Anchormen played their final non-conference opponent of the regular
season on Monday, Oct. 24 against Connecticut College and won, 1-0, in
double overtime. The two teams were knotted at 0-0 through regulation
and one overtime period before Teixeira scored the game-winner in the
101st minute. Neves made four saves to improve his record
to 5-4-1 with three shutouts. Souto had the assist on Teixeira’s goal. |

The
Anchormen will battle longtime nemesis Keene State on Thursday, Oct.
27 at RIC. The Owls are 27th in the country with an 11-2-2
overall record and a 5-0 (First Place) mark in the Little East.
The all-time mark between the two teams
has the Owls holding a
27-10-1 mark (That goes back all the way to the R.I.C.E. days). Since
Keene joined the Little East in 1997, RIC is 0-9 against the Owls. RIC
has lost eight consecutive regular season games and one in the
Championship Game of the 2004 LEC Men’s Soccer Tournament. In the last
two regular season meetings, RIC lost to Keene State, 4-1, in 2004 at
Keene and, 3-2, at home in 2003.
