Anchormen & Thomas Split Doubleheader
|
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College split a doubleheader with Thomas College in its home
opener on Sunday afternoon. RIC won game one, 13-2, while Thomas
bounced back in game two with a 9-5 victory. The Anchormen are now
4-7, while the Terriers, who were seeing their first action of the
season, are now 1-1.
|
|
A seven-run
third inning propelled RIC to the victory in game one. Sophomore
pitcher Eric Thibault
(Somerset, MA)
earned the
win, going the distance with seven strikeouts to improve his record to
2-1 on the season. Freshman shortstop
Josh Cardoso’s (Dartmouth, MA)
three-run homer in the third helped secure the win. Cardoso went
3-for-4 with two runs scored, four RBI, one double and a homer, while
freshman designated hitter
Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI)
went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI and a two-run blast.
Junior catcher Tim Henault
(East Greenwich, RI)
also homered for the Anchormen. Thomas senior pitcher
Jordan Stebbins (Gardiner, ME)
falls to 0-1 on the season, surrendering nine earned runs, seven hits
and three walks in 2.2 innings of work.

|
It was a
different story for RIC in the second half of the twinbill, as the
Anchormen struggled to solve Terriers’ senior pitcher
Ryan Rulman (Westbrook, ME).
The Anchormen grinded out three runs and freshman starting pitcher
Jake Dent (Somersworth, NH)
held
Thomas to three runs through the first five innings before RIC
unraveled in the sixth frame. The Terriers scored five runs on zero
hits, capitalizing on two Anchormen errors, which resulted in four
runs, to take an 8-3 lead. The Anchormen tried to come back in the
bottom half of the inning, loading the bases with no outs, but only
came away with two runs. Thomas senior third baseman
Jordan McDonald (Pelham, NH)
went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a double, while senior right
fielder Jerry Randall
(Milton, NH)
went 3-for-3
with two runs scored and a run batted in. RIC freshman relief pitcher
Donovan Rabbitt (Wood River
Junction, RI),
who gave up three runs in relief during the sixth inning, takes the
loss and sees his record dip to 0-2.

|
The Anchormen
will face Roger Williams on Tuesday, Mar. 21, while the Terriers head
to Arizona for their spring trip.
