LANCERS STAY UNDEFEATED IN, 18-13,
WIN OVER RIC
Gavin’s Ten GOALS AREN’T ENOUGH IN ANCHORWOMEN LOSS

RI—Worcester
State College upped its record to 8-0 in an 18-13 victory over Rhode
Island College in collegiate women’s lacrosse action on Tuesday
afternoon. The Anchorwomen suffer their fifth straight loss and fall
to 2-9 on the season. |

Rhode
Island College jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from junior center
Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth,
RI)
and sophomore midfielder Melissa Reggio (Commack,
NY)
in the first
3:39
of the game. Worcester State came back with four goals by junior
center Ann Clark (Worcester,
MA),
and two each by junior attack Kim Massa (Westford,
MA)
and freshman defender Meredith Godfroy (Tyngsboro,
MA),
to lead, 10-6, at the half. |

Gavin, who
totaled four first half goals, sophomore midfielder Kerry McDevitt
(Jamestown, RI) and freshman defender Kendra Gerrish (North
Stonington, CT) each scored a goal in the first 5:08 of the second
frame to cut the Lancers’ lead to one goal, 10-9. Worcester State
responded with four goals of its own as
Clark
and Godfroy each tallied to increase the Lancers’ lead. Gavin scored
six goals in the second half, but could not get the Anchorwomen any
closer down the stretch. |

Clark paced
WSC’s attack with six goals, three assists, 11 ground balls and five
draw controls. Freshman attack Shannon Feeley (West
Springfield,
MA)
had three goals, two assists and six ground balls, while Godfroy had
four goals, six ground balls and two draw controls. Freshman
goalkeeper Lindsey Nunes (West
Springfield,
MA)
made 15 saves to stay unbeaten with an 8-0 record. |

Gavin was a
one-person show for RIC, with ten goals, five ground balls and nine
draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Culbertson (North
Kingstown,
RI)
made 14 saves in a losing effort. |

|

action, RIC will host Southern Maine on Thursday, Apr. 13 at 4 p.m. |
