NCAA Regional Championship
Game: Anchorwomen vs. Williams, Monday, May 15, 4:00 p.m.

Providence, RI—
The recent weather drenching much of New England is also playing havoc
with the Rhode Island College Softball team’s chances of advancing to
the NCAA Softball Championship. The Anchorwomen, who are the second
seed in the Northeast Regional of the NCAA Div. III Softball
Tournament, hosted by Babson College, currently own a 2-0 record and
await top-seeded Williams in a winner’s bracket contest. |
|
|
|
Due to the rain and unplayable
field conditions, the matchup of the two top teams in the regional has
been postponed for two consecutive days. The game is tentatively
scheduled to be played tomorrow, May 15, at 4:00 p.m. The winner of
the contest will be awarded the regional championship and earn a berth
into the National Championship Tournament, in Raleigh, North Carolina,
next week. |
|
|
|
Per NCAA rules, a team
representing the Northeast Regional must be known by the end of the
day on Monday. Because of this, the regional, which held a
double-elimination format, will now feature the winner-take-all
matchup between RIC and Williams. The remaining five teams
participating in the tournament have all been eliminated as they each
have at least one loss. |
|
|
|
If weather and field conditions
do not allow the game between the Anchorwomen and Williams to be
played by the end of the day on Monday, Williams will advance due to
its higher seed in the regional. |
