Five Anchormen Earn All-LEC
Honors in Baseball
Chris O’Connors Named Rookie of the Year
|

|
Providence, RI—Five
Rhode Island College baseball players have been named to the 2006
Little East Conference Baseball All-Star Teams. |
|
|
|
Freshman left fielder Chris
O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) was named the Little East
Conference Baseball Rookie of the Year and was also named First Team
All-LEC. O’Connors has played in 40 games, starting all of them. He is
batting .430 (64-for-149) with 64 hits, 41 runs, 17 doubles, one
triple, five home runs and 35 RBI. He owns a .658 slugging percentage,
a .522 on-base percentage and a .926 fielding percentage. He leads the
team in batting, hits, runs, doubles, home runs and RBI. He was
named the Little East Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week twice on
the season. |

Senior second baseman Ray De
La Cruz (Providence, RI) was named First Team All-Little East
Conference for the second time in his career. He is batting .371
(52-for-140) with 52 hits, 43 runs, seven doubles, four triples, four
home runs, 18 RBI and 15 stolen bases. De La Cruz owns a .564 slugging
percentage, a .467 on-base percentage and a .931 fielding percentage.
He leads the team in runs and stolen bases, is second in hits and
third in batting. |

Junior catcher Tim Henault
(East Greenwich, RI) was named First Team All-Little East
Conference. Henault is batting .377 (49-for-130) with 49 hits, 30
runs, ten doubles, two triples, one home run, 31 RBI and three stolen
bases. He owns a .508 slugging percentage, a .418 on-base percentage
and a .995 fielding percentage. Henault, who was named the team’s MVP,
is out for the remainder of the season after being hit by a pitch,
which resulted in a broken hand, against Eastern Connecticut on Apr.
29. He is second on the team in batting and is third in both runs and
hits. |

Sophomore closer Eric Fama (Wappingers
Falls, NY) was named First Team All-Little East Conference. He is
3-1 with six saves and a 0.70 ERA over 25.2 innings of work in 19
appearances. Fama leads the team in ERA and has struck out 39 batters
on the season. |

|
Sophomore third
baseman/designated hitter Pete Olson (North Providence, RI) was
named Second Team All-Little East Conference. He is batting .294
(25-for-85) with 25 hits, nine runs, five doubles, two triples and 14
RBI. He owns a .400 slugging percentage, a .315 on-base percentage and
a .842 fielding percentage. |

Head Coach Jay Grenier’s
team is 20-20 overall and is the fourth seed in the upcoming 2006
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Div. III
Baseball Tournament. The Anchormen will host fifth-seeded UMass Boston
on Friday, Apr. 19 at 3 p.m. |
