Angell’s
31 points help Anchorwomen end Eastern’s 13-0 winning streak
|

Willimantic,
Conn. – Senior Jamie Angell (Cranston, RI) had 31 points to
lead Rhode Island College to a 84-57 victory over Eastern Connecticut
State University for the first time in five seasons, at Saturday’s
Alumni Game, held at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium. |

|
Eastern
(17-4/7-3 lec) has not lost to Rhode Island (10-10/2-8 lec) since the
1999-’00 season. |

|
Eastern was
led by junior Sandy Mosley (GOSHEN) with 15 points and six
rebounds followed by Katie Kline (NORTH
BROOKFIELD, MA)
with ten
points and Nicky Morey (COLUMBIA) with eight points and two
steals. |

|
|
Rhode Island
opened the game with a 5-0 run and allowed the Warriors to take the
lead only twice during the first half. Ten minutes into the game,
Eastern’s Kline scored a lay-up to give the Warriors a one point
advantage; however, Rhode Island responded with a three-pointer by
Angell. The Warriors took the lead again with 5 minutes left in the
half; this time by two off a jumper by freshman Kate Brunet
(BRISTOL) but the Anchorwomen went on an eight point run to end
the half with a 44-35 lead. |

Angell
recorded 15 of her 31 points for the Anchorwomen but Eastern kept the
game close thanks to the scoring efforts of Mosley, Kline and Brunet
who scored 25 of the team’s 35 points during the first half. Rhode
Island shot 61.3 percent for the half and 40 percent from the
three-point line while Eastern shot at 50 percent and went 0 for 5
from the three-point arch. |

Rhode Island
continued to dominate the second half, leading by as much as 31 points
and only allowing Eastern to come within ten points of the lead. The
Anchorwomen opened the half hitting 7 of 10 field goals while Eastern
made just 1 of 16 during the first ten minutes. The Warriors
attempted two more three-pointers during the final 20- minutes but
missed both to go 0 of 7 for the game and shot just 33.8 percent from
field goal range. Rhode Island shot 54 percent from the field and
36.4 percent from the arch for the game with Josalee Danieli (New
Gloucester, ME) contributing 12 points, Colleen Feeney
(Providence, RI) and Kari Geisler (Deerfield, NH) had 10
points each. |

Prior to the
start of the game, Eastern’s Mosley was honored for surpassing 1,000
career points with a commemorative basketball presented by head coach
Denise Bierly. Following the conclusion of the game, seniors Lindsey
Karsmarski (w-basketball), Jenn Orme (w-soccer) and Laura Tignonsini
(w-track and field) were awarded the Holly E. Zimmerman Memorial
Award. This award is given to exceptional student-athletes within the
physical education, athletic training, or sports management majors.

travels to Keene State College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. game. |
