Women’s Basketball Update #3

(10-10 Overall; 2-8 in the Little
East Conference)

RI--Head
Coach Spencer Manning’s team is 10-10 overall and 2-8 in the
Little East Conference. RIC is tied with UMass Boston for seventh
place in the LEC. RIC has won its last two conference games and is
back at .500 for the first time since Jan. 14. The Anchorwomen have
won three of their last four games, with their only loss coming at
Plymouth St. on Jan. 28 in overtime. |

• Senior
guard Jamie Angell (Cranston,
RI)
scored a RIC-career-high 31 points to lead Anchorwomen to an 84-57
victory over Eastern Connecticut for the first time in five seasons on
Feb. 4.
The Warriors had not lost to Rhode Island since the 1999-’00
season. Rhode Island shot 54 percent from the field and 36.4 percent
from downtown in the game. Sophomore forward Josalee Danieli (New
Gloucester, ME)
contributed 12 points, while sophomore forward Colleen Feeney (Providence,
RI)
and junior forward Kari Geisler (Deerfield,
NH)
had 10 points each. Geisler and Feeney each recorded double-doubles
with 11 and ten rebounds, respectively. Angell was named the
Little East Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

• Sophomore
guard Sarah Coughlin (Attleboro, MA) scored a career-high 15
points, to go along with five rebounds, five assists and tied a
career-high mark with six steals in the Anchorwomen’s, 73-58, win at
Mitchell on Jan. 31. Feeney had 16 points, ten boards and four
assists, while Geisler chipped in with a ten-point, eight-rebound
performance. |

• Plymouth
State hit two free throws with 11 seconds left in overtime to down
RIC, 67-65, on Jan. 28. Angell had a 50 ft. three-pointer that went in
at the buzzer in regulation waved off to force the extra session.
Angell led all scorers with 21 points, while Geisler grabbed a
game-high 13 boards in the loss. Feeney had 19 points, eight boards
and three blocks. |

Geisler scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the
Anchorwomen’s, 63-51, win over UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 24. The win
snapped a three-game losing streak and gave RIC its first Little East
Conference win of the season. |

•
CONFERENCE ACCOLADES: Jamie Angell: Little East Conference Player
of the Week (2/6); Kari Geisler (11/21, 12/5, 1/30), Jamie Angell
(12/12, 1/17) and Colleen Feeney (1/9) have been named to the Little
East Conference Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on the season. |

CONFERENCE LEADERS: Angell leads the Little East in three-point
field goal percentage (40-88, .455), is second in scoring (14.7 ppg)
and is sixth in assists (67, 3.35 apg). Geisler leads the LEC in
rebounding (11.0 rpg) and is 11th in scoring (10.8 ppg).
Feeney is third in rebounding (8.6 rpg), is second in both free throw
percentage (.791) and blocks (26, 1.3 bpg) and is fourth in scoring
(12.9 ppg). Danieli is second in field goal percentage (.542, 65-120). |
