UMASS DARTMOUTH
BOWS TO RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE, 65-60 |

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Rhode
Island College built a 10-point lead with six minutes remaining and
went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s women’s
basketball team, 65-60,m in the first game of a Little East Conference
doubleheader at the Tripp Athletic Center Tuesday evening. |

The Corsairs had rallied to cut the lead to
a single point, 57-56, with 2:51 remaining on a three-pointer by
senior guard Kerri Augenstein (East Greenwich, RI/Bay View Academy),
two jump shots by freshman forward Joanna Piascik (New Britain, CT/New
Britain HS) and two free throws by sophomore guard Ashley Chard
(Burlington, CT/St. Paul HS). But the Anchorwomen made five free
throws in the final minute to preserve their lead. |

Piascik led UMass
Dartmouth with 19 points, while Augenstein added 15. Kari Geisler led
RIC with 16 points, Colleen Feeney added 15 and LeeAnne Kitchen
contributed 13. |

UMass Dartmouth dropped
to 10-14 and 3-10 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while
Rhode Island College improved to 11-13 and 3-10 in LEC play with the
victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Western
Connecticut State Saturday afternoon in the first game of a Little
East Conference doubleheader. |
