2005-06 Women’s Indoor Track & Field Season Summary

Coach Kevin Jackson’s team closed out the 2005-06 season at the
New England Open Championships, hosted by Boston University on Feb.
24-25. |
|
|
|
The Anchorwomen competed at the New England Div. III Championships,
hosted by Tufts on Feb. 17-18. RIC tied for 15th place (20
teams) with 13 points. |
|
|
|
RIC competed at the Little East Conference/MASCAC Alliance
Championships, hosted by Southern Maine on Monday, Feb. 13. RIC placed
fifth overall (eight teams) and fourth (five teams) in the Little East
with 34.0 and 34.0 points, respectively. |
|
|
|
Senior Dana Skorupa (Cumberland, RI) leaves Rhode Island
College as the school record holder in the 55, 200 and 300 meters, as
well as the long jump. She was named the team’s MVP in 2003, 2004 and
2006. |
|
|
|
As a senior in 2005-06, Skorupa closed out her career at the New
England Open Championships on Feb. 25. She placed 28th in
the 55 meters with a time of 7.56, 22nd in the 200 meters
with a time of 26.76 and 12th in the long jump with a
distance of 4.98 meters. She earned All-New England honors in both the
55 and 200 meters with times of 7.46 and 26.90, respectively, and with
a fourth place, 5.22-meter effort in the long jump at the New England
Div. III Championships on Feb. 18, which tied her school-record mark
set earlier in the season. Skorupa earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the 55 meters, 200 meters and the long jump at the Little
East Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed
first in the both the 55 and 200 meters with times of 7.46 and 26.80,
respectively, to go along with a second place, 5.18-meter effort in
the long jump. She placed sixth in the 55 meters and fourth in the 200
meters with times of 7.52 and 29.25 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb.
4. Skorupa placed first in the 55 meters, 200 meters and long jump
with times of 7.54 and 27.11 to go along with a leap of 5.19 meters at
the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. She placed second in the
55 meters, first in the 200 meters and second in the long jump with
times of 7.57 and 27.19 to go along with a leap of 5.00 meters at the
Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Skorupa placed first in the 55 meters,
200 meters and the long jump with times of 7.54 and 27.29 to go along
with a school-record leap of 5.22 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational
on Jan. 14. She placed 10th in the 200 meters with a time
of 27.05 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. Skorupa placed 11th
in the 55 meters and 13th in the 200 meters with times of
7.73 and 27.21, respectively, at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3.
She was named the Little East Conference Women’s Track Athlete of
the Week twice this season. |

As a junior in 2004-05, Skorupa
earned
All-New England honors in the 55 meters and 200 meters, placing fifth
and seventh with times of 7.42 and 26.92, respectively, at the New
England Div. III Championships. She also placed in a tie for tenth in
the long jump with a leap of 4.82 meters. She earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in five events, placing first in the
55 meters and 200 meters with times of 7.41 and 26.78, respectively,
at the Alliance Championships. Skorupa earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors as part of both the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relay teams, which
placed third and second with times of 1:54.08 and 4:22.27,
respectively. She also placed fourth in the long jump with a leap of
16’05.25”. placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 26.65 at
the Last Chance meet. Skorupa also placed tenth in the preliminary
round of the 55 meters with a time of 7.53. She placed tenth in 55
meters with a time of 7.51 and 17th in the 200 meters
with a program-record time of 26.33 at the New England Open
Championships. She was the highest Div. III competitor in both events.
She placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.18 and
fourth in the long jump with a leap of 4.82 meters at the Tufts
Invitational. Skorupa placed second in the 55 meters, third in the 200
meters and first in the long jump with times of 7.52 and 27.32,
respectively, and a leap of 16’09.00” at the Southern Maine
Invitational. She placed first in the 55 meters with a time of 7.57
and third in the long jump with a leap of 4.79 meters at the Tufts
Invitational. She placed first in the 55 meters with a time of 7.68,
second in the 200 meters with a time of 28.08 and first in the long
jump with a leap of 4.87 meters at the Wesleyan Invitational. For her
efforts, she was named the Little East Conference Track Women’s Track
Athlete of the Week. She placed 12th in the 200 meters with
a time of 26.96 at the Harvard Invitational. She placed ninth in the
55 meters with a time of 7.64 and 13th in the 200 meters
with a time of 27.25 at the Alden Invitational.
She was named the Little East Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the
Week three times. |

As a sophomore in 2003-04, she was a three-time Little East Conference
Women's Track Athlete of the Week selection. She broke two RIC records
with high marks in both the 55 and 200 meters. She earned All-ECAC
honors in the 200 meters, placing seventh with a time of 26.54.
Skorupa earned All-New England honors in two events. She placed fourth
in both the 55 meters and 200 meters with times of 7.40 and 26.45,
respectively. Both times were new school records. Skorupa earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in three events at the Alliance/Little
East Championships. She placed third in the 55 meters, first in the
200 meters and first in the 400 meters with times of 7.53, 26.58 and
1:00.70, respectively. Skorupa finished fifth in the finals of the 55
meters with a time of 7.63 and fourth in the 200 meters with a time of
26.55 at the Tufts Invitational. She placed first in the 55 meters,
second in the 200 meters and third in the 400 meters with times of
7.52, 26.82 and 1:01.92, respectively at the Southern Maine
Invitational. Skorupa placed sixth in the 55 meters with a time of
7.59 and third in the 400 meters with a time of 1:00.98 at the Tufts
Invitational. She finished first in the 200 meters with a time of
26.75 and second in the 55 meters with a time of 7.50 at the Wesleyan
University Invitational. She placed 18th in the 400 meters
with a time of 1:04.62 and ninth in the semi-final round of the 55
meters with a time of 7.55 at the Yale Classic. She finished eighth in
the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.03 at the Harvard Invitational. She
placed 11th in the 55 meters with a time of 7.65. She
placed tenth in the 200 meters with a time of 26.97 at the Alden
Invitational. She was named the Little East Conference Women’s
Track Athlete of the Week three times. |

As a freshman in 2002-03, she
earned
All-New England honors in the 55 meters, placing seventh with a time
of 7.74. She placed ninth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.35 at
the New England Championships. Skorupa earned All-Alliance/Little East
honors in the 55 meters, placing second with a time of 7.73. She also
placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 27.67 at the same meet.
Skorupa placed 15th in the 200 meters with a time of 27.77
at the Harvard Invitational. She placed eighth in the 300 meters with
a time of 45.44 at the Brown Invitational, establishing a new RIC
record in the process.
Skorupa
placed first
in the 55 meters with a time of 7.70 and second in the 200 meters with
a time of 27.22 at the Southern Maine Invitational. She placed third
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.45 and fourth in the 55 meter
hurdles with a time of 9.43 at the same meet. Skorupa placed 50th
in the 400 meters with a time of 1:01.28 at the Terrier Classic. She
placed 28th in the preliminary of the 200 meters with a
time of 27.52 at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. Skorupa
placed 13th in the 55 meters with a time of 7.71 and
seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.89 at the Yale
Invitational. |

She is an elementary education major with a concentration in special
education and a 2002 graduate of Cumberland High School. |

|
Sophomore Jo-Anne Daviau (North Scituate, RI) placed 21st
in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:21.68 at the Tufts Invitational
on Feb. 4. |

Freshman Stephanie Bailey (Lincoln, RI) placed 40th
in the 200 meters with a time of 30.79 at the Alden Invitational on
Dec. 3. |

|
|
Freshman Hannah Clark (Attleboro, MA) placed 12th in
both the mile and 1,000 meters with times of 6:31.14 and a
school-record mark of 3:43.07, respectively, at the Little East
Conference/MASCAC Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. Clark placed 37th
in the mile with a time of 6:30.57 at the Tufts Invitational on Feb.
4. She placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:48.76 at the
Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. Clark placed 28th
in the mile with a time of 6:27.91 at the Tufts Invitational on Jan.
21. She placed seventh in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:59.44 at
the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. Clark placed 19th in
the mile with a time of 6:30.75 at the Harvard Invitational on Dec.
10. She placed 14th in the 1,000 meters with a time of
3:43.76 at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3. |

Freshman Mary Ellen Horsman (Barrington, RI) earned
All-Alliance/Little East honors in the weight throw, placing third
with a distance of 11.74 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 11th in the
weight throw with a distance of 11.41 meters at the Tufts Invitational
on Feb. 4. Horsman placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance
of 11.91 meters at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan. 28. She
placed eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 11.10 meters at
the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Horsman placed eighth in the shot
and fifth in the weight throw with distances of 5.86 and 11.99 meters,
respectively, at the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed 14th
in the weight throw with a distance of 11.85 meters at the Harvard
Invitational on Dec. 10. |

Freshman Kathryn Lewandowski (Pawtucket, RI) placed 14th
in the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a time of 8.30 and 16th
in the 200 meters with a time of 29.25 at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 28th in the
preliminary round of the 55 meters and 22nd in the 200
meters with times of 8.22 and 29.25, respectively, at the Tufts
Invitational on Feb. 4. Lewandowski placed tenth in the preliminary
round of the 55 meters and eighth in the 200 meters with times of 8.17
and 29.96, respectively, at the Southern Maine Invitational on Jan.
28. She placed 15th in the preliminary round of the 55
meters and 23rd in the 200 meters with times of 8.24 and
30.36, respectively, at the Tufts Invitational on Jan. 21. Lewandowski
placed 11th n the preliminary round of the 55 meters with a
time of 8.24 and ninth in the long jump with a leap of 4.01 meters at
the Wesleyan Invitational on Jan. 14. She placed 18th in
the 55 meters and 39th in the 200 meters with times of 8.23
and 30.34, respectively, at the Alden Invitational on Dec. 3. |

Freshman Ashley Nyzio (Pawtucket, RI) placed 14th in
the shot with a distance of 7.34 meters at the Little East Conference/MASCAC
Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She placed 15th in the
shot with a distance of 7.48 meters at the Southern Maine
Invitational on Jan. 28. Nyzio placed 30th in the shot with
a distance of 7.26 meters at the Harvard Invitational on Dec. 10. |
