Rhode Island College Names Denis
Chartier
Head Women’s Soccer Coach
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College named Denis Chartier as its head women’s soccer
coach. He takes over for Ryan Angel who stepped down earlier
this summer. Chartier is just the third head coach in the program’s
11-year history. |
|
|
|
“I am very excited
to take over the women’s soccer program at Rhode Island College,”
Chartier says. “I am looking forward meeting all of the players on the
team and am anxious to start the season.” |
|
|
|
He has over 35
years of experience as a coach, mentor, player and referee in the
sport of soccer. Chartier spent 12 seasons as an assistant women’s
soccer coach at Div. I Brown University from 1989-2001. His
responsibilities included player development, recruiting, scouting,
goalkeeper training and practices. He is currently the assistant
director and coach of the Brown Soccer School. |

He was the head
coach of the RI-USA Strikers from 2001-03 and an assistant coach with
the Rhode Island United U-12 team in 1995. Chartier was a director and
coach with the DMC Soccer Clinics from 1991-98. He was the director of
coaching and referees for the Burrillville-Glocester Youth Soccer
Association from 1983-01. He was the director of referees and coach
for U-19 boys with the Northern Rhode Island Soccer League from
1977-80. He began his coaching career as the head coach of St. Ann’s
School in the Woonsocket City League in 1969 and held that position
until 1973. |

He owns a United
States Soccer Federation B License. |
|
|
|
He earned a
bachelor’s degree in management from Johnson & Wales University in
1984. |
|
|
|
Chartier resides
in Oakland, Rhode Island with his wife Denise. They are the proud
parents of two children: Joseph (29) and Matthew (28) and have one
grandchild. |
