Anchormen Edged In
Final Minutes |

KEENE, N.H.–Alex Horne’s scored with 1:12
left to play to give Keene State College a dramatic 3-2
come-from-behind victory over Rhode Island College in a Little
East Conference men’s soccer this afternoon at the Owl Athletic
Complex. |

|
The Owls scored two goals in the final five minutes
of the game to pull out the win. Eric Scott tied the game at the
86:02 mark on his second direct kick goal of the game. “When you
can get two in one game it’s pretty good,” said the Owls’ senior
captain. “I was in a zone. The last one, I just wanted to rip
it. It was all or nothing. I went for it and it worked out.” |
| |
|
That set the stage for Horne’s game winner. “Pelse
(Mesa) gave me a perfect ball, “ he said. “I made one cut inside
and had an open net to shoot. Luckily the keeper didn’t hold on
to that one. We dug down deep and found a way to win.” |
| |
|
“The last five minutes everybody stepped up,” added
KSC Coach Ron Butcher. “When you play hard good things happen.”
|
| |
|
Scott gave Keene
State
a 1-0 lead when his direct kick from 20-yards out curled past the
wall into the far corner of the net. |

|
RIC tied the game late in the half. Jimmy Hernandez
(Providence,
R.I.)
deflected Jameson Gonzalez’s (Johnston, R.I.)
drive into the box past Owl goalie Cal Mintz (Westport, Conn.).
|
| |
|
Nic Rossi (N. Kingstown,
R.I.)
put RIC up 2-1 when he headed in a crossing corner ball from
Brandon Migliore (Coventry, R.I.)
at the 70:05 mark. However, late game heroics by Scott and Horne
enabled KSC to win. |
| |
|
Mintz finished with two saves for KSC (10-3-1, 3-1-1
LEC) who move ahead of RIC into second place in the LEC. Jadon
Neves (Warren, R.I.)
stopped five shots for the Anchormen (7-5, 3-2 LEC).
