ANCHORWOMEN WIN OCEAN STATE
SHOWDOWN
3-1 Victory Over Johnson & Wales Gives RIC Unofficial Title

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College captured the unofficial Rhode Island State
Championship, by downing Johnson & Wales, 3-1, in a battle of the
Ocean State’s four Div. III women’s volleyball programs. Both the
Anchorwomen and the Wildcats were 2-1 on the day and RIC came out on
top by defeating JWU. In the day’s other action, both Roger Williams
and Salve Regina went 1-2. |

The
Anchorwomen should have been undefeated and in the driver’s seat
coming into the day’s final match, but they allowed Salve Regina to
come back from a 2-0 deficit and win, 3-2. The Wildcats steamrolled
Salve Regina and Roger Williams, 3-0, coming into the RIC match. |

|
Junior
outside hitter Madison Greene (Cranston, RI) had a huge match
vs. the Wildcats for RIC, posting 18 kills, six digs and two blocks.
Junior right side hitter Sherri Heard (Coventry, RI) and senior
middle hitter Erin Miga (Cranston, RI) totaled 10 and 11 kills,
respectively. Miga also posted a team-high six blocks. The junior
setter tandem of Jeanne Rosa (Milford, CT) and Amy Souza
(Tiverton, RI) combined for 47 assists with 26 and 21,
respectively. Senior libero Stephanie Wojciechowski (North
Kingstown, RI) and Rosa led the squad with 14 and 12 digs,
respectively. |

action, RIC will host Suffolk on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
