Julie Bannon Named Little East
Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week
|

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College freshman Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) was
named the Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week for
the fourth time this season. |
|
|
|
Bannon helped lead
Rhode Island College to a 2-0 week and its fourth consecutive Little
East Conference Regular Season Championship. She also helped the
Anchorwomen to win their 29th consecutive Little East
Conference match in an 8-1 victory over UMass Dartmouth on Oct. 14.
She defeated Alicia Newton from UMass Dartmouth (6-4, 6-3) at
number six singles and teamed with junior Kseniya Gurvich
(Barrington, RI) to defeat Newton and Jessica Sanderson
(8-2) at number two doubles. Bannon defeated Carla Mallqui from
Suffolk (6-2, 6-4) at number five singles and teamed with senior
Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) to defeat Stephanie Nasr
and Caterina Rosa (8-3) at number two doubles on Oct. 11.
Bannon is 14-0 in singles and 14-2 in doubles on the season. She
finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 singles record against
Little East competition. |

Coach Kelly Chartier’s team is 13-1 overall and 7-0 in
the Little East Conference. |

In
upcoming action, RIC will take part in the 2006 Little East Conference
Women’s Tennis Championships on Oct. 20-21 at UMass Dartmouth. The
winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Div. III Women’s Tennis
Championships, which are played in the spring. |
