ANCHORMEN ELIMINATED FROM LEC TOURNEY
RIC Falls to Longtime
Nemesis Keene State, 3-0
|
|
Keene,
NH—Third-seeded
Rhode Island College saw its season come to an end in a 3-0 loss
to top-seeded Keene State in semifinal action of the 2006 Little East
Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament. The loss snaps the Anchormen’s bid
for their first-ever Little East Conference Tournament title and a
berth in the NCAA Div. III Men’s Soccer Tournament. RIC had made it to
the Championship Game in each of the past two seasons. The Anchormen
are 0-11-1 against the Owls since KSC joined the Little East in 1997. |

|
The Owls
had several scoring opportunities in the first half and finally cashed
in at the 19:33 mark as junior midfielder Jeremy Kelsey (Gilford,
NH) buried a shot in the far corner. Sophomore forward Alex
Horne (Harvard, MA) gave the Owls a two-goal lead at the 35:26
mark when he settled the ball on the right side and fired a
left-footed bullet past Rhode Island College junior goalkeeper
Jadon Neves (Warren, RI). |
|
|
|
Freshman
forward Scott Cluff (Kingston, MA) added an insurance goal in
the 49th minute when he finished off a crossing pass from
junior forward Pelse Mesa (Manchester, NH). |
|
|
|
Neves made
five saves in a losing effort, while KSC junior goalkeeper Cal
Mintz (Westport, CT) made four stops. |
|
|
|
The
Anchormen end their season with a 10-6-1 overall record, while the
Owls advance to the Little East Conference Men’s Soccer Tournament for
the sixth time in school history with a 13-5-1 mark. |
