ANCHORWOMEN FALL IN LITTLE EAST
OPENER
Gavin & Darby Score Twice as RIC Loses, 9-5, at Keene State

Keene, NH—Keene State outscored Rhode Island
College, 7-1, at the half and went on to defeat the Anchorwomen, 9-5,
in Little East Conference women’s lacrosse action. Rhode Island
College remains winless on the season with an 0-4 record, while Keene
State ups its mark to 4-3. |

Rhode Island
College senior center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) and
freshman midfielder Meredith Darby (Middletown, RI) had two
goals apiece, while junior midfielder Marissa Kielbasinski
(Windsor, CT) rounded out RIC’s offensive output. Junior defender
Erin Duffy (North Dighton, MA) and freshman defender Sharon
Corriveau (Coventry, RI) picked up five and four ground balls,
respectively. Gavin led all players with a game-high 15 shots.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT)
made 10 saves between the pipes. |

Andrea
Mitchell (Bow, NH)
and Lauren Cooper (Danbury, CT) netted two goals each to lead
Keene State. Cooper’s second goal, her sixth of the season, gave KSC
an, 8-2, lead five minutes into the second half. A three-goal
outburst capped off by Darby’s second tally cut the Owls’ lead to 8-5
with 9:06 to play. Mitchell scored two minutes later to extend KSC’s
lead to 9-5. |

Lanaya Nelson (Chester, NH), Michelle Mazzotta (Cromwell,
CT), Meagan Moran (Derry, NH), Melissa Stopera (Scotia
Glenville, NY), and Ashleigh Baudin (Salem, NH) added
single goals for the Owls. It was Baudin’s first college goal.
Nelson chipped in with three assists. Jen Gearing (Westfield, MA)
stopped four shots in goal to pick up the victory. |
