Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College sophomore shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA)
was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
Division III Baseball Hitter of the Week for the week ending April 15.
Earlier in the week, he was selected as the Little East Conference
Player of the Week after leading the Anchormen to a 3-0 mark in the
conference circuit with a .714 (10-for-14) batting average, seven
RBIs, six runs scored, a pair of home runs, a triple and a 1.214
slugging percentage. |

Founded
in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college
baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists
of the sport. |

|
On April 5, Cardoso went 4-for-5 with his first career multiple-homer
game, a season-high five RBIs and two runs scored to lead the charge
as Rhode Island College overpowered conference for UMass Dartmouth,
13-3. He continued his white-hot hitting in a doubleheader against
UMass Boston over the weekend. Cardoso went 3-for-4 with two runs
scored and an RBI to lift the Anchormen to a 6-4 victory in game one.
He added three hits, including a triple, two runs scored and an RBI as
the hosts swept the twinbill with a, 9-4, nightcap victory. He sits
atop the Little East Conference standings in batting average (.491),
slugging percentage (.825), on-base percentage (.561) and runs scored
(21), while sharing the lead in home runs (4).
Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Jay Grenier,
Rhode Island College boasts an overall record of 11-6, including a 4-2
mark in the conference action. The Anchormen return to action at noon
on April 14, when Rhode Island College travels to Southern Maine for a
Little East Conference doubleheader. |
