PLYMOUTH STATE DOWNS RIC, 19-6
Gavin and Darby Score as Anchorwomen Remain Winless in LEC Action
Providence, RI— Rhode Island College senior center Caitlin
Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) and junior midfielder Kerry McDevitt
(Jamestown, RI) scored a pair of goals apiece, but it wasn’t
enough as Plymouth State University powered past the Anchorwomen,
19-6, this afternoon in Little East Conference women’s lacrosse action
at the Rhode Island College Lacrosse Complex. |
Senior midfielder Meg Cupoli (Southboro, MA) paced Plymouth
State (6-4, 2-1 Little East) with nine points on six goals and three
assists, while classmates Annie Pinault (Framingham, MA) and
Kelsey MacDonald (Oak Bluffs, MA) each scored five points. Senior
attacker Liz Boddy (Brentwood, NH) also netted a hat trick as
the Panthers outshot their hosts, 35-22. |
The
visitors cracked the scoring column, just 46 seconds into the contest,
when MacDonald registered her first of three tallies on the afternoon.
The hosts netted the equalizer at the 4:43 mark when Gavin converted
off a free-position attempt. |
Plymouth
State regained the advantage for good with a three-goal surge in the
span of just 34 seconds to stake the Panthers to a 4-1 lead. Cupoli
fueled the surge with a goal and an assist, while Boddy and Pinault
found the back of the net, respectively. |
Rhode
Island College (1-6, 0-2) was determined to keep the affair close,
answering with consecutive scores. Junior defender Marissa
Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) collected her fifth marker of the
campaign, while McDevitt followed suit at the 14:51 mark to whittle
the deficit to 4-3. That would be as close as the Anchorwomen would
get as Plymouth State sealed its second straight conference victory by
scoring eight of the final nine goals of the frame to enter the
intermission with a decisive, 12-4, advantage. |
Between
the pipes, Rhode Island College freshman Katie Kielbasinski
(Windsor, CT) made 12 saves, including eight in the first half,
while Plymouth State junior Suzie Lilakos (Stratham, NH) turned
back 12 offerings, including seven-of-eight free-position attempts, to
register the victory. |
Rhode
Island College returns to action at 4 p.m. on April 16, when the
Anchorwomen travel to Westfield State College for a non-conference
game. Plymouth State will continue its five-game road trip, when the
Panthers square off at Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 p.m. on April 19. |
