Culbertson Notches Career-High Four Points as
Anchorwomen Drop Second Straight Contest

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College junior midfielder Sydney Culbertson (North
Kingstown, RI) recorded a career-high four points on two goals
and two assists, but it wasn’t enough as Bridgewater State
overpowered the Anchorwomen, 18-7, in collegiate women’s lacrosse
action. |

The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead off the stick of
senior midfielder Kathryn Sweeney (Norwood, MA). RIC senior
center Caitlin Gavin (Portsmouth, RI) briefly quelled the
surge with a goal, before Bridgewater State erupted for six straight
tallies, capped by freshman attacker Shannon Manning’s
(Framingham, MA) marker with 14:57 left in the first frame. |

The two teams went into intermission with the Bears
holding an 11-3 advantage. Bridgewater State kept up the pressure,
scoring fours goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half and
never looked back. The Anchorwomen scored the final three goals of
the game as the Bears upped their record to 7-5 overall. |

|
Sweeney led all scorers with four goals and one
assist for five points. Manning and senior attacker Alicia
Spolidoro (Duxbury, MA) each had a goal and an assist.

|
|
BSC freshman goalkeeper Jessica Cercone (Peabody,
MA) made two saves in the first half to pick up her seventh
(7-4) win of the season. Freshman Chelsea Bracchi (Pembroke, MA)
made four stops in the final 30 minutes. Rhode Island College
freshman goalkeeper Katie Kielbasinski (Windsor, CT) made six
saves as her record dips to 3-8. |

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College (3-8) will
host the top-ranked team in the Little East Conference when the
Anchorwomen battle Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Apr. 28 at noon.
Bridgewater State will play at Western New England on Wednesday,
Apr. 25 at 4 p.m. |
