FELIZ’S BUNT SINGLE WINS IT IN
10 FOR ANCHORMEN
Costa & Naylor Play Key Roles in Walk-Off Victory
Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior shortstop Luis Feliz (Cranston, RI)
laid down a one-out, bases loaded bunt single to plate sophomore
left fielder Chris O’Connors (North Kingstown, RI) with the
game-winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift
the Anchormen past Framingham State, 10-9, in collegiate baseball
action. |
Rhode Island College sophomore
Jeff Costa (Pawtucket, RI) was another hero in the win, starting
the game at shortstop and then coming in to pitch in the seventh
inning. He went 1-for-5, with a solo homer in the second inning and
pitched four innings of shutout ball to earn his (1-0) first
collegiate win. |
The Anchormen went into the bottom
of the eighth inning, trailing in the game, 9-5. Senior right
fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) belted a bases loaded
triple to pull the Anchormen within one, and then scored on junior
first baseman Jim Connell’s (Smithfield, RI) sacrifice fly to
force extra innings. |
The Rams jumped out to an early lead
as freshman second baseman Paul Bonfiglio (Belmont, MA)
belted RIC senior starting pitcher Caleb Barber’s (Mystic, CT)
first pitch of the afternoon over the left field fence. The lead
was shortlived as an O’Connors sacrifice fly and a Connell RBI
single gave RIC a 2-1 advantage. |
Framingham State scored five runs in
the third frame, keyed by senior left fielder Jon Kincaid’s
(Braintree, MA) RBI triple and a two-RBI double by senior first
baseman Mario Maloni (Agawam, MA). The Rams tacked on three
runs over the next three innings to build a four run advantage
heading into the eighth. |
FSC used six pitchers, with junior
reliever Luke Guarino (Winthrop, MA) taking the loss (0-2).
Connell paced the RIC attack, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. O’Connors
went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while Naylor went
2-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI. |
Kincaid went 3-for-5 with two runs
scored and two RBI to lead the Rams. |
In upcoming action, the Anchormen
will play a doubleheader at Western Connecticut on Saturday, Apr. 28
beginning at noon. |
