NAYLOR NEARS ALL-TIME RECORDS IN WIN OVER WILDCATS
Briggs Hurls Seven Strong Innings as RIC Wins Fifth Straight

Providence, RI—Rhode
Island College senior right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI)
closed in on the Anchormen’s all-time career hits and runs scored
records as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in RIC’s,
8-2, win at Johnson & Wales on Tuesday afternoon. |

Naylor, who added two doubles to bring
his school-record leading total to 45, is just five runs and four hits
shy of breaking the all-time school records in those categories. The
Anchormen have three regular season games left before the Little East
Conference playoffs begin next week. |

|
RIC jumped out to an early lead plating
seven runs in the first three frames. In addition to Naylor, sophomore
left fielder Chris O’Connors (North
Kingstown, RI) went 2-for-3
with two runs scored, two RBI and two doubles. Senior catcher Tim
Henault (East Greenwich,
RI) went 2-for-4 with two
runs scored and a double. Junior third baseman Pete Olson (North
Providence, RI) went 1-for-2
with a run scored and an RBI triple. |

Senior pitcher Wade Briggs (Woonsocket,
RI) hurled seven strong
innings, allowing just two runs on five hits to go along with six
strikeouts. Junior reliever Evan Grogan (East
Lyme, CT) threw two innings
of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and totaling one strikeout. |

The Anchormen improve to 18-12, winning
their fifth straight game, while the loss drops the Wildcats to 22-18. |

|
|
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College
will host Babson at Anchorman Field tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. It
will be Senior Day, as Briggs, Naylor, Henault, along with fellow
seniors Brian Farley (North Providence, RI), Luis
Feliz (Cranston, RI) and Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT) will be
honored prior to the start of the contest. |
