ANCHORMEN WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT
WITH SENIOR DAY VICTORY
Henault & Feliz Lead Anchormen Offense
Providence, RI—Rhode Island College
improved to 19-12 on the season, downing Babson, 8-4, at Anchorman
Field on Wednesday afternoon. RIC ups its current win streak to six
games, while the Beavers fall to 23-13. |
Senior catcher Tim Henault (East Greenwich, RI) and senior
third baseman Luis Feliz (Cranston, RI) both registered three
hits in the victory. Henault went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run
scored, while Feliz also went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Senior
right fielder Mike Naylor (Warwick, RI) inched closer to
RIC’s all-time runs scored and hits records, going 1-for-3 with an
RBI and a run scored. He needs four runs and three hits to become
the Anchormen’s career leader in those categories. |
The
Beavers jumped on Rhode Island College sophomore starter Jeff
Costa (Pawtucket, RI) in the first frame, tagging the righty for
two runs on two hits. Junior right fielder Steve Tahmoush
(Arlington, MA) led off with a single and scored on junior
second baseman Matt Delaney’s (Newton, MA) two-run homer (2)
to left center field. |
The
Anchormen took the lead for good in the fourth inning, scoring four
runs on four hits off of Babson junior starting pitcher Sam
Whelan (Milton, MA). Naylor and Henault each notched RBI
singles, while sophomore shortstop Josh Cardoso (Dartmouth, MA)
plated two with a double. |
Rhode Island College tacked on three more runs in the sixth, chasing
Whelan from the game. Sophomore second baseman Garrett Grenier
(Smithfield, RI) had an RBI single and later scored on Babson
senior reliever Brett Best’s (Yorktown, NY) wild pitch. |
RIC
freshman pitcher Paul Vatter (Warwick, RI) came on in relief
of Costa in the fifth inning to earn his third (3-3) win of the
season. Costa allowed two runs on six hits to go along with two
strikeouts. Vatter hurled three innings, allowing two runs on three
hits with one K. Senior reliever Brian Farley (North Providence,
RI) came on in the eighth and pitched two innings of hitless and
scoreless ball. |
Whelan suffered just his second loss (6-2), allowing eight runs on
nine hits to go along with three strikeouts. |
It
was Senior Day at Anchorman Field, as Henault, Feliz, Naylor, and
Farley, along with fellow classmates Wade Briggs (Woonsocket, RI)
and Caleb Barber (Mystic, CT), were honored prior to the
start of the game. |
