Women’s Tennis Season Summary
13-1 Overall; 7-0 in the Little East Conference;
Little East Conference Regular Season Champions |

Coach Kelly Chartier’s
(Career Record: 57-11, .838) team finished the 2006 campaign with a
13-1 (.929) overall record and a 7-0 (1.000) record in the Little
East Conference. The team’s 13 victories tied the 1999 and the 2004
editions’ mark for the most single-season wins in program history.

|
RIC went
undefeated versus LEC competition for the third consecutive season.
Rhode Island College has won 29 consecutive Little East Conference
regular season matches, having not lost a league contest since
falling, 5-4, at Plymouth State on Sept. 14, 2002. The Anchorwomen
were the Little East Conference Regular Season Champions for the
fourth consecutive season. At the LEC Championships, hosted by UMass
Dartmouth on Oct. 21-22, RIC amassed 16.0 points, falling just one
point shy of tourney champion Plymouth State’s 17.0 points. |

Senior captain Tara Marchant (North Scituate, RI) leaves
Rhode Island College with a 35-23 (.603) career singles record and a
44-21 (.677) mark in doubles for 57.0 points. She ranks fifth
all-time in doubles victories, sixth in points and is eighth in
singles wins. Marchant leaves as the only player in RIC women’s
tennis history to have been part of four consecutive Little East
Conference Regular Season Championship teams. She was also part of
two LEC Tournament Championship squads (2003, 2005) as well. |

As a senior in 2006, she posted an 11-5 (.688) record at number
three singles and was 9-10 (.474) at number two doubles for 15.5
points on the season. She was tied for fifth on the team in singles
wins and sixth in doubles victories. |
|
|
|
As a junior in 2005, Marchant was the Little East Conference
Champion at number three doubles. She was 11-3 in singles (.786) and
14-4 (.778) at number three doubles for 18.0 points on the season.
Marchant was tied for third on the team in both singles and doubles
victories. |
|
|
|
As a sophomore in 2004, she was the Little East Conference Champion
at both number five singles and number three doubles. She was 6-4 in
singles (.600) and is 13-1 (.929) at number three doubles for 12.5
points on the season. Marchant led the team in doubles victories. |
|
|
|
As a freshman in 2003, Marchant
was 7-11
(.389) at number four singles and 8-6 (.571) at number two doubles
for 11.0 points on the season. Marchant was tied for fourth on the
team in doubles victories and was sixth in points. |
|
|
|
She is a history major and a 2003 graduate of Scituate High School. |
|
|
|
Junior Sasha Doonan (Pawtucket, RI) was the Little East
Conference Champion at number one doubles. She was 12-4 (.750) at
number two singles and 15-4 (.789) at number one doubles for 19.5
points on the season. Doonan was tied for second on the team in
singles and doubles wins as well as points. |

|
Junior Kseniya Gurvich (Barrington, RI) was the Little East
Conference Champion at number three doubles. She was 11-4 (.733) at
number four singles and 15-2 (.882) at number three doubles for 18.5
points on the season. Gurvich was tied for fifth on the squad in
singles wins, tied for second in doubles victories and was fifth in
points. |

Sophomore Kathleen Brady (North Smithfield, RI) was 1-0
(1.000) in singles and 2-0 (1.000) in doubles for 2.0 points on the
season. |
|
|
|
Sophomore Meg Funk (Oakdale, CT) was the Little East
Conference Champion at number one doubles. She was 12-4 (.750) at
number one singles and 15-4 (.789) at number one doubles for 19.5
points on the season. Funk was tied for second on the club in
singles and doubles wins, as well as points. |

|
|
Sophomore Ashley St. Amand (West Warwick, RI) was 1-0 (1.000)
in singles and 2-0 (1.000) in doubles for 2.0 points on the season. |
|
|
|
Freshman Julie Bannon (Narragansett, RI) was the Little East
Conference Champion at number six singles and number three doubles.
She was 17-0 (1.000) at number six singles and 17-2 (.895) at number
three doubles for 25.5 points on the season. Bannon led the team in
singles and doubles victories, as well as points. Her totals for
singles and doubles wins, singles winning percentage and points were
new school records for a single season. |

Freshman Kim Boghossian (Cranston, RI) was a reserve on the
team. |
|
|
|
Freshman Jaclyn Eastman (Mansfield, MA) was 14-2 (.875) at
number five singles and 10-8 (.556) at number two doubles for 19.0
points on the season. She was second on the team in singles wins,
fourth in points and fifth in doubles victories. |

|
|
Freshman Ashley Giansanti (Warwick, RI) was 1-0 (1.000) in
doubles matches for 0.5 points on the season. |
